InWorld of Warcraft, Alliance starting zones include Dun Morogh for the Dwarves and Gnomes, Elwynn Forest for the Humans, and Teldrassil for the Night Elves. Though players can travel between these starting zones, most tend to finish their starter zone before moving on and decidingwhere to level past Level 10or so.
The best Alliance starting zone inWorld of Warcraft Classicis difficultto decide for certain because each zone has its strengths and weaknesses. For example, Dun Morogh might be eye-piercingly snowy, but its home to Ironforge, arguably the best-located city. If you want to experience the bestWorld of Warcraftstarting zones, Alliance players should follow this guide to decide which race to play as, or which starting zone they should journey to first before leveling their character.
Dun Morogh
If You Like Snow, Snow, & More Snow, Go Dun Morogh
The snowy, mountainous environment of Coldridge Valley and the greater Dun Morogh area is beautiful, and Ironforge is arguably the best Alliance capital city in terms of its layout and closeness to both Menethil Harbor (to get to Kalimdor) and many endgameWoW Classiclocations in the Eastern Kingdoms, like Blackrock Mountain.
But Dun Morogh lacks a certain something that makes it stand out. Everyone remembers Beer Basted Boar Ribs, of course, but the music doesn’t punch like other starting zones, the quests are a bit dull, and most players rush through it to get to Loch Modan as fast as possible.
Dun Morogh is a great zone for lots of reasons, but compared to the Humans' iconic Elywnn Forest or the Night Elves' ethereal Teldrassil, Dwarves and Gnomes get the short end of the stick.
Elwynn Forest
A Nostalgic Starter Zone With Convenient Zone Connections
Elwynn Forest, the starting area for Humans, is the best Alliance starting zone inWoW Classicfor the convenience of leveling, its music, and for the sheer grandeur of Stormwind. Everyone has played a Human character atsome point in theirWoWhistory, and for most who stick with the Alliance, Northshire Abbey and Elwynn Forest are probably the most nostalgic places in all of Azeroth.
Stormwind, though not quite as conveniently located as Ironforge, is still an incredible city to explore while listening to one of the best soundtracks in the entire game.
One of the other benefits of starting in Elwynn Forest is that it is directly connected tothreesecondary zones. This makes for the most efficient leveling route as you won’t have to travel outside of this four-zone area to get level-appropriate quests until around Level 25 to 30.
Teldrassil
A Truly Alien, Lush Forest & Gorgeous Night Elf Aesthetics
Something of a controversial zone because of itsdistance from the rest of the Alliance, Teldrassil makes up for its inconvenient location with some of the most immaculate vibes in the entire game. The music of Shadowglen and the Night Elf starting zone is as iconic as the Stormwind theme song, and there’s a lot more variety to the Night Elf OST.
The visuals of Teldrassil are unlike anything seen in other fantasy games, making for a starting zone that feels both alien and completely natural. Darnassus might not be the most popular Alliance Capital City thanks to its distant location, but the architecture (drawn from both Japanese and ancient Greek traditions) is among the game’s best.
It’s definitely one of the most soothing starting areas inWoW, if nothing else – that is until you get too close to the edge and realize that Teldrassil is the name of the enormous tree as you hurtle to the water far, far below.
