There are multiple types of damage players can deal and receive inPath of Exile 2. Outside of physical damage, there are four elemental damage types: Fire, Lightning, Ice, and Chaos.
These elemental damage types can potentially be more deadly than basic physical damage, as each one has thepotentialfor also adding an ailmentto the target. These ailments can be deadly if you get inflicted with one, making elemental resistances very important; here are which ones you need to prioritize.
What Is The Most Important Resistance In Path of Exile 2
Armor is obviously very important since most enemies deal physical damage, but outside of that, the most important resistance is Chaos Resistance. Chaos damage deals double damage to your energy shield, and also leads to two of thepotentially worst ailments. Poison and Bleeding may seem like any other damage over time effect, but what makes them unique is that theyboth deal damage straight to your health.
Should you get inflicted with one of these damage types, your energy shieldwon’t protect you like other damage over time effects. If you’re playing a glass canon build that doesn’t have high health, this can be devastating and lead to a quick death. Raising your Chaos Resistance will at least limit the amount of damage done directly to your health.
How To Raise Chaos Resistance
Chaos Resistance is also the hardest resistance to raisesince it can only be done with bonuses found on gear, as there are no passives for raising Chaos resistance like other resistance types.
The Other Most Useful Resistances In Path of Exile 2
Aside from Chaos Resistance, players should put a few upgrades or gear pieces onraising their lightning resistance. Being unable to move for five seconds withElectrocutecan be very bad, and an enemy able to inflict that ailment will probably be hitting you with other lightning attacks while you’re stuck.
Shock also increases the amount of damage you take by 20% while in effect, and raising your lightning resistance can help negate some of that additional damage as long as the enemy is using additional lightning spells. Thereare passive skillsand gear bonuses that increase your Lightning resistance, unlike with Chaos. While these should be your priorities, it’s useful to have a bit of every resistance, as enemies will use every damage type throughout the game.
