What Is The Protagonist’s Canon Name In Persona 5 Royal
Through spin-off games, an anime adaptation, and a manga adaptation, the protagonist has been given the names Ren Amamiya and Akira Kurusu. This has led to a bit of a divide in the fan base as to which one is canon. Thetrue answer is Ren Amamiya, as that comes fromAtlusthemselves and is even programmed into Persona 5 Royal. Akira Kurusu only appears in the Manga adaptation and is still seen as a reasonable answer to the question.
The protagonist will be referred to as Joker more than anything else, and his name will not change or affect anything in the game.
Ren Amamiya is also the name used for the Protagonist inPersona 5: Dancing In Starlight, which is a spin-off but still an official Atlus game. While the Persona 5 Manga does follow the major story of the game, it does have a few alterations from the game that further its place as supplemental material than thecanon events of the story; lessening the legitimacy of Akira Kurusu.

With the release ofPersona 5 Royalon the PC, players were able to mess with the settings in different ways than the PlayStation allowed. By changing the language of the game to English from another language and loading into an already existing save file; the game will give a message thatstates the player’s name will be set to Ren Amamiyafor the remainder of the playthrough or until the language is changed back.
Doing this will alsoreset the nameof your Phantom Thievesto now be, “The Phantoms,“further making that name the canon name of the group. Aside from changing your name to the canon name by changing the language of the game, there is no way to change the Protagonist’s name after deciding it.
