Summary
Today sees the release ofLucasfilm’seagerly awaitedStar Wars: Skeleton Crew, a Disney+ original series starring Jude Law. The actor has been a longtime fan of the series, and recently revealed which film he likes best.
Skeleton Crewfollows a group of kids lost in space. They are led– possibly astray– by Law’s character Jod Na Nawood, who is notably the only adult in the main cast. Not much is known about the adventure they’re all going on together, butfans are already surmising that Jod has nefarious intentions. There are some pretty outlandish theories, with some guessing that he’s a clone of Emperor Palpatine or a distant relative of Rey’s father. Law has been mostly staying away from fan theories but when asked, seemed to be more intrigued by the notion that Jod is a former Jedi and Order 66 survivor. He and the rest of the cast have remained pretty tight-lipped, but did say diehard fans can expect plenty of fun easter eggs to analyze throughout the series.
After starring in both the MCU andHarry Potterfranchises, it seems only right that Law finally makes his way to a galaxy far, far away as well. Like many, he has been keeping up with theStar Warsfilms sinceA New Hope.In a recent interview with Collider, he talked about which installment of the series is his favorite, and why. And naturally, he couldn’t pick just one.
“Empire Strikes Back, and then Rogue One.
[Rogue One is] a great, great movie. Nothing can take away from the impact thatStar Warshad on me. I mean, evenEmpire Strikes Back, which is a better film and has one of the greatest moments in cinematic history — the reveal of “I am your father” shattered my life. How is this possible? This is the most evil, scary person I’ve ever seen, and he’s thehero’s dad? It doesn’t make sense.”
Working with Law seems to have been a great learning experience for the young actors. Ravi Cabot-Conyers, who plays Wim in the show, saidin an exclusive interview with Game Rantthat the Oscar-nominated actor kept everyone on set very grounded and focused, and was constantly raising the bar for his costars. It’s easy to see why, because theCaptain Marvelstar clearly has a deep appreciation for the source material. Part of the interview was spent gushing over the props and matte paintings. He shared an anecdote about when “geeked out on” Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, two of the minds behind some of the most popularStar Warsmedia today. Law also talked about a few rules eachStar Warsproject has to follow, the main being that they have to stem somehow from the original films even if they’re entirely their own thing (likeSkeleton Crewis).
Law is very confident that fans will want more after the season finale, saying the ending will leave the audience “confounded” and maybe even “a little bit upset”.Star Warshas seen a lot of success in the streaming era. EvenThe Acolyte, which proved controversial to some and was ultimately canceled, hadhigh overall viewership and got people who weren’t originally fans to tune in.Star Wars: Skeleton Crewmay be aimed at a younger audience, but it’s hoping to capture the magic of the franchise like the critically acclaimedAndordid.Just in a different way.
The first two episodes ofStar Wars: Skeleton Crewwill be available to stream on Disney+ on December 2nd, 2024 at 6PM PST.
