Warcraft 1 Orc Campaign – Scenario 1 Walkthrough
“The Swamp of Sorrows”
Blackhand has assigned you to an outpost in the Swamp of Sorrows.
Your task is simple enough that even the Warchief feels that you are capable of it.
Construct at least 6 farms, so that we may keep our troops well fed and ready to do battle.
Only a fool would leave his treasures unguarded, so you must also build a barracks for the defense of these farms.
In this firstWarcraft1Orc campaign mission, your objectives are relatively simple:build six Farms and one Barracks to complete the scenario. This level functions as a kind of tutorial for the game, giving you plenty of space to learn unit functions and thebasics of maintaining your economy.
When the game starts you will have one Farm and a Town Hall, a Peon, three Grunts, and 400 Lumber and 1000 Gold in your base resource pool.
Immediately after the level briefing ends, click on your Town Hall andbuild one Peonfor 400 Gold. Then, send out each of your Grunts toguard the north-east and west sideof your settlement.
It’s a good idea to get into the habit of sending out your scouts further than they will be posted. This uncovers the Fog of War, and lets you see enemy movements before they get too close to your settlement.
Your Guards will intercept any Humans that get too close to your settlement. In the first Orc campaign mission,Warcraft 1playersdon’t have to defeat all enemies, you just have to construct the required buildings.
Send your first Peon to collect Gold from themine to the northeast, and when your second Peon is ready, send them toharvest Lumber from the forest nearby, too. Immediately build another Peon and send them to the Forest. You shouldaim to have four to five Peonsevenly split between Lumber and Gold harvesting.
EachFarm requires 300 Wood and 500 Goldto build, and aBarracks costs 500 Wood and 600 Gold. Both of these buildingsmust be placed next to a Road.
Be careful not to block in your settlement or Peons will not be able to deliver resources. Peons cannot walk through buildings, and will even bump into each other on Roads.
After you have enough resources to construct a Barracks, place it near the western side of your settlement so newly spawned units are close to where most Humans will tend to attack from. Only start building new Farms when you do not have enough Food to support all of your Units – it’s more important to build a Barracks first in case your three starting Grunt units start to die off.
If youkeep an eye on your borders and repel any Human invaderswhile defending your Peons, you should be able toamass resources in relative peace. A few seconds after constructing the last of the builds required for this scenario, you will complete the firstWarcraft 1Orc Campaign mission and receive the briefing foryour next mission: The Borderlands.
