Since Sega has recently been revisiting some of its classic IPs likeGolden AxeandShinobi, many fighting game fans believed thatVirtua Fighterdeserved a similar revival. Sega has announced the series will be making a big comeback on PC this winter, starting withVirtua Fighter 5 REVO.

Virtua Fighter 5 REVOis an enhanced remaster of the originalVirtua Fighter 5, with this port being based on2021’sVirtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown. TheREVOversion aims to give fighting game players the most optimal experience on PC, such as rollback netcode for a smooth online experience, 60 FPS, and 4K resolution support. There will also be a number of balance adjustments coming to this version as well. While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, Sega confirms thatVirtua Fighter 5 REVOwill be launching on Steam this Winter.

When will Virtua Fighter 5 REVO be released on Steam?

The lastVirtua Fightergame to release on PC wasVirtua Fighter 2.1back in 1997. The originalVirtua Fighter 5was first released in 2006 for arcades, before launching on PlayStation 3 in 2007. An updated version ofVirtua Fighter 5subtitledFinal Showdownwas released in the 2010s for Xbox and PS3, before the game got a complete remake using Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s Dragon Engine, released exclusively on PS4. A lot ofVirtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown’s changes and featureswill be retained forREVO, such as character customization and costumes.

When fans heard thatSega announced a newVirtua Fighterearlier in November, many were hoping it could be a brand-new mainline game instead of a port. Some were at the very least happy thatVirtua Fighter 5is finally coming to the PC 18 years after it first launched, giving gamers a chance to try out Sega’s classic fighting game if they haven’t already.
