As a franchise that has lasted over twenty-four years,The Simshas added plenty of careers for players to test out for themselves. However, some careers from previous iterations are still missing fromThe Sims 4. ThoughThe Sims 4has added plenty of new jobs that players enjoy, EA and Maxis should look at these previous careers when considering new additions. However, some of these careers deserve to remain in the past. This article seeks to determine whatThe Simsteam should keep and what should be left behind.

Additionally, some careers that are technically missing from previous games inThe Simsfranchise are missing from this list because they have equivalents inThe Sims 4. For example, the fortune-teller career introduced inThe Sims 3: Supernaturalwas replaced by the medium freelance careerinThe Sims 4’s Paranormal Stuff Pack.

The Sims 4 Could Add These Missing Careers

Acrobat and Circus

The Acrobat and Circus careers areavailable inThe Sims 3: ShowtimeandThe Sims: Unleashed, respectively. No circus themed DLC has been added toThe Sims 4despite clowns making an appearance in the game. This would be a perfect addition to a new pack.

Band

The Band career is a skill-based career added inThe Sims 3: Late Night. Skill careers are self-employed type careers. While players can take the Musician track ofthe Entertainer careerinThe Sims 4, players cannot join a band specifically. A pop star DLC pack would be right upThe Sims 4’s alley.

Dance

The Dance career is availableinThe Sims 2’s FreeTime expansion pack. While players can earn money from dancing in public inThe Sims 4, no dedicated career for the skill exists. If a dance or gymnastics themed pack is added to the game, specifically, having a company dance career could be a fun addition.

Firefighter

The Firefighter career is available inThe Sims 3: Ambitions. Firefighting is aninteresting instance inThe Sims 4,as firefighters can appear if a fire occurs. However, no firefighting career is available in the game, neither as a rabbit hole nor an active career. Firefighting has been highly requested byThe Simscommunity as a career addition and should be kept in mind by EA and Maxis.

Magician

The Magician career is available inThe Sims 3: Showtime. Though the title may suggest this career is available inThe Sims 4,the Realm of Magic pack addsspell casters to the game rather than sleight of hand magic. This could be a fun career to add to DLC themed to performance acts like acrobatics or the circus.

Sculptor

Sculptor is a skill-based career that was added inThe Sims 3. While painting and photography areavailable inThe Sims 4, sculpting has yet to be added. This would be a fun skill if added to the game, though sculptures would likely be sold in storefronts and the hot bar rather than featuring a dedicated career.

Sports Agent

The Sports Agent career is available inThe Sims 3: University Life. The Athlete career inThe Sims 4surprisingly does not feature a Sports Agent track. If EA and Maxis decided to expand sports game play inThe Sims 4through DLC, Sports Agent would be a perfect career to add to the game.

The Sims 4 Could Leave These Careers Behind

Adventurer

The Adventurer career is available inThe Sims 2: Seasons. Adventurers take on all sorts of quests, fromIndiana Jones-esque relic retrievals to pirate fights on the seven seas to outer space travel. This addition seems unlikely toThe Sims 4asthe Jungle Adventure Game Packreplaces this concept as a hobby rather than a career. It also focuses primarily on theIndiana Jonesaspects of the Adventurer career rather than taking players on multiple types of adventure.

Animal Care

The Animal Care career is available inThe Sims: Unleashed. It’s a ten-level career that starts as “Dog Walker” and ends with “Animal Magician.” Animal careers are available inThe Sims 4, but not with as wide variety as the Animal Care career which jumps all over the place. The Sims 4is more centralized, taking the Animal Care career’s ninth level, veterinarian, and making it a dedicated career in the game.

Art Appraiser

The Art Appraiser career is available inThe Sims 3: University Life. It’s a ten-level career with two branches – Acquisition and Appraisal. Similarly,The Sims 4’s Painter careerhas a Patron of the Arts branch which essentially acts as the game’s version of Art Appraiser.

Astronomer

The Astronomer career is available inThe Sims 3: Into the Future. It is a ten-level career with two branches – Astrophysicist and Space Explorer. The Space Explorer branch was replaced inThe Sims 4with the Astronaut career. The new Astronaut career encompasses a lot of the Astronomer career’s game play, making it an unwise addition toThe Sims 4.

Crafter

The Crafter career is available inThe Sims Castaway Stories. The Sims 4has several kindsof workstations with their own designated careers, essentially making this career defunct and impossible to add.

Game Development, Gamer, and Video Game Developer

These three careers are available inThe Sims Life Stories,The Sims 2: Seasons, andThe Sims 3: University Life, respectively. The Computer Engineer track of the Engineer career introduced inThe Sims 4’s Discover University Expansion Packand the base game Tech Guru career, surprisingly, does not feature game design. This would have been the perfect opportunity to include the career, making it unlikely that it will be added at a later point.

Hunter and Gatherer

The Hunter and Gatherer careers areavailable inThe Sims Castaway Stories. This career hinges on the game’s hook of Sims on a deserted island. No such pack exists forThe Sims 4,making the career impossible to add unless the game releases similar DLC.

Hacker

The Hacker career is available inThe Sims: Livin’ Large. The Sims 4’s “Programming” skill leads to similar abilities as the Hacker career. The Oraclebranch of the Criminal careeressentially acts as the Hacker career inThe Sims 4.

Oceanography

The Oceanography career is available inThe Sims 2’s FreeTime Expansion Pack. It’s similar to veterinarian and scientist careers, with a focus specifically on the ocean. The Sims 4’s closest counterpartis the Island Living Expansion Pack’s Conservationist career which has a Marine Biologist branch. “Marine Biologist” is the sixth level of the Oceanography career.

Slacker

The Slacker career is available inThe Sims: Livin’ LargeandThe Sims 2. It’s a ten-level career in both games, featuring levels that are typically considered entry-level jobs, like “Convenience Store Clerk.” Considering the number of freelance positions available inThe Sims 4, Slacker seems like an unwise addition.

Some Simmers may find certain careers more important than others, but some career additions seem more likely than others. Nevertheless, the next DLC pack forThe Sims 4will undoubtedly feature fun new careers for players to enjoy.

The Sims
