Much like everySimsgame before it,The Sims 4has had its fair share of DLC packs since it launched back in 2014. Not only has it gotten the standard expansion and stuff packs, but Maxis has expanded its offerings even further with Game Packs and Kits. All of which has helped to makeThe Sims 4a massively successful life-sim. And while it does not seem like that will slow down anytime soon, the studio could further expand its offerings in one extremely unique way.
The Sims 4DLChas taken on many forms and given players so many new ways to interact with their Sims. With each pack, players have been taken to new locales, experienced new mechanics, and the game has been expanded in unique ways. However, some players may actually want to take a step back and further explore a past DLC’s theme. So, Maxis may want to consider doing just that with fully-fledged DLC sequels.
The Sims 4 Could Completely Reinvent Its DLC Model
Since 2015,The Sims 4has gotten numerous expansion packsthat have taken the life-sim all over the place. Get to Work let players actually experience their Sims' jobs, Seasons brought with it actual weather effects, Get Famous let Sims make a name for themselves, and High School Years brought them to the classroom. No matter what players have been looking for,The Sims 4seems to have provided it, but it never really tends to expand upon those additions further.
Once a new expansion releases,The Sims 4tends to move on from whatever the last one was. Sometimes, it revisits it in a smaller pack, or builds upon its systems in a future expansion, but Maxis tends not to further expand upon an expansion with any new ideas or updates. Even if there is immense potential for more, players never really get to see that realized. However, that can all change ifMaxis shook up its DLC modela bit with DLC sequels.
Future DLC Could Take Those Concepts to New Heights
FutureThe Sims 4DLC could take concepts that had been previously explored and expand upon them with even more content. A Get to Work 2 could introduce even more unique career paths, Seasons 2 could further build upon seasonal weather with terrifying storms or more seasonal content, Get Famous 2 could add even more ways to become the biggest Sim on the planet, andHigh School Years 2could give the high school experience an even greater depth. Whatever theme the expansion took on, there is so much more content waiting to be explored.
Not only would these sequel DLC packs giveThe Sims 4players a way to re-explore a past theme, but they could also give Maxis so much more post-launch content ideas to play with. While some players may want this game to last forever, there will come a time when the studio really has nowhere else to take it. But, if it actually did create sequels of sorts, then that could give the game an even longer lifespan. And if it worked for expansion packs, then Maxis couldmake sequels to Game Packs, Stuff Packs, and Kits as well.
As of now, there is no indication that Maxis has any plans to build upon past DLC content with more DLC content. The studio seems to be forging ahead with brand-new ideas, with Life & Death being its latest venture. But, if it is ever looking for some way to shake things up considerably, then sequel DLC may be its best route forward.
