The production forThe Sandmanseason two went underway in June 2023 at the Shepperton Studios in the UK but, due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, the series was put on pause a month later. Thankfully, things started to pick up again in November last year when Neil Gaiman put fans' minds at rest that production had indeed resumed once again.
The Sandmanseason one premiered in 2022 and, due to the show’s incredible success with comicbook audiences, the series was thenrenewed for a second season. Its return has been a long time coming, but as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait and just looking atThe Sandman’s cast, it seems as though the wait will be worth it. Based on Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed graphic novel series, which ran from 1989 to 1996, the supernatural fantasy drama tells the story of Morpheus, one of the seven Endless, who is captured in an occult ritual for over a hundred years. Upon finally escaping his cruel environment, Morpheus sets out with a determined plan to restore order to his realm, the Dreaming.
The Sandman Season 2’s Desire Talks About Starring Alongside Dream
In a podcast withWhatsOnStage, Mason Alexander Park discusses their role as Desire inThe Sandmanand how their role as the overarching antagonist has overlapped with playing Ariel in the stage play of William Shakespeare’sThe Tempest. Park said that Desire and Ariel had similarities due to their nonhuman concepts and their anthropomorphic personifications, with both characters having a “mysticism and a magical” quality about them. Park also stated that they loved playing the role ofDesire inThe Sandmandue to the character’s “chameleon” attributes and expressed it was the “greatest gift in the world” to not only star in the hit Netflix show, but also get to star in the acclaimedThe Tempest, in which they rub shoulders with the iconicAlien’s actor, Sigourney Weaver.
Park also talked about their co-star, Tom Sturridge, who plays Morpheus (Dream), who they said was one of the most amazing actors to play opposite, and how Sturridge made the role of Desire really easy for them to play. Park, who had previously starred in theNetflix adaptation of the animeCowboy Bebop, also said that they don’t usually watch themselves in anything they are apart of, but they have seen all the clips thatThe Sandmanfans have tagged them in on social media.
With a host of great additions toThe Sandmanseason two, which includesa “hot-tempered” norse god played by Laurence O’Fuarain, the dream world’s return is getting more exciting than ever. However, as yet, Netflix unfortunately hasn’t confirmed when fans will get their eyeballs on the new season, but the streaming service did confirm that it will be sometime in 2025, which seems far too long to wait.
