$157,386,805 worldwide. While some reviews weren’t overwhelmingly positive, there’s no doubt that audiences weren’t thrilled to get the chance to watch these characters and enter this memorable world again.
In 2024, whenThe Matrixhad its 25th anniversary, Reeves spoke toVarietyabout starring in such a popular franchise. He said hearing how much fans love the movie is “the best” and got emotional when talking about the subject. He explained:
“The Matrixchanged my life, and then over these years, it’s changed so many other people’s lives in really positive and great ways. As an artist, you hope for that when you get to do a film or tell a story.”

In April 2024,Varietyreported thatThe Matrix 5was being developed. Although Lily and Lana Wachowski wrote and directed the past four movies,Drew Goddard is writing and directing. Since Goddard is known for co-writing and directingthe brilliant horror movieThe Cabin in the Woods, it will be cool to see how he takes on this famous franchise. There is no release date at this time.
