One of the strongest arguments in favor ofconsideringOne Piecethe greatest anime of all timeis the amount of character development Oda gives to nearly all the supporting characters. Even civilians with no fighting ability are often given memorable and tragic backstories that viewers can’t help but resonate with.
This is why finding forgettable pirate captains inOne Pieceis a tall order. However, the sheer number of characters in Oda’s epic ensures that some get less screen time than others.
8Don Krieg
Krieg Pirates
Don Krieg is introduced as an incredibly famous pirate captain of East Blue, who had built a fleet of 50 ships in his homeland in preparation to head to the Grand Line. He first appears in the Baratie Arc when Luffy is trying to recruit Sanji as a Chef for his pirate crew, beaten and broken after a failed excursion to the Grand Line.
It’s ironic, then, that Don Krieg is vastly overshadowed even during his first appearance. Not only by themain cast ofOne Piece, like Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Namibut by the supporting characters as well. Even his fight is forgettable because of the simple fact that Dracule Mihawk introduces himself immediately afterward, a much more memorable character and stronger besides.
7Demalo Black
Fake Straw Hat Crew
Demalo Black is the name of the overweight Luffy impersonator who encounters the real deal during theReturn to Sabaody Arc post time-skip. While the individual himself may be recognizable because of the absurdity of the situation, many viewers may not even realize that Demalo was not just a random gang leader on Sabody who thought posing as Fake Luffy alongside his crew would be a good idea, but an actual pirate captain with a real bounty on his head.
After serving as comedic relief for a bit, Demalo is promptly forgotten after the Pacifistas attack Luffy, and he is exposed as a hack.
6Diez Barrels
Barrels Pirates
Diez Barrels is a now-deceased pirate captain who was the father of X Drake, one of the more prominent characters in One Piece. He only makes a brief appearance in the Dressrosa arc during a flashback that shows him trying to sell the Op-Op Devil Fruit to the Marines—the same fruit that gave Trafalgar Law his incredible powers.
Despite the circumstances surrounding him being quite important to the overall story arc, Diez Barrels has no significant achievements to his name, no fights to remember him by, and no deeper lore for fans to latch onto. He was a slimy, deceitful pirate captain who got his due at the hands of Donquixote Doflamingo and was immediately forgotten in the annals of history.
5Goo
Unnamed Crew
Goo was a pirate captain who had his shadows stolen byGecko Moria’s Shadow Shadow Devil Fruit. His entire crew was caught as well, lost their shadows just like him, and were forced to stay on Thriller Bark because they couldn’t survive in the sunlight.
Goo had no achievements attributed to him. He was a minor pirate captain who did not have any Devil Fruit powers to separate him from the rabble. He made his appearance in the anime, was saved by the Straw Hats after Luffy defeated Moria, and promptly disappeared forever.
4Bizarre
Bizzare Pirates
Bizzare wasone of the pirate captains affiliated with the Whitebeard fleet. Unlike his much more notable counterparts like Marco the Phoenix and Blackbeard, he is one of the least memorable captains in the Whitebeard crew.
His only known fight is during thehistoric Marineford Arcduring the battle to save Ace from being executed. Even while it was happening, it was massively overshadowed by other, much more important events like Luffy’s rush to get to Ace and Whitebeard’s last stand.
3Roshio
Roshio Pirates
Executioner Roshio is the pirate captain of the Roshio Pirates and is one of the most forgettable captains inOne Piece. Despite having the bounty of 42,000,000 Beli, Roshio’s only claim to fame is beingcurb stomped by Bellamythe first time he makes an appearance.
His character’s only notable achievement is beating a no-name pirate off-screen before being used as a story device to introduce Bellamy’s Boing-Boing Devil Fruit powers. While he later does also appear in the Egghead Arc, viewers would be hard-pressed to tell where they saw him before.
2Puzzle
Phoenix Pirates
Puzzle is a filler character who only appears in theOne Pieceanime directly after the Straw Hats set off from Water 7. Despite having a relatively high bounty of 100,000,000 Beli, the only reason Puzzle may stick in viewers' minds is because of his red hair, which gives him a passing similarity to Shanks.
During the Ice Hunter Arc, Puzzle encounters the Straw Hats when he is injured in a clash with another crew of pirates on the Grand Line. He is discouraged and ready to disband his pirate crew when faced with this weakness but manages to recover his mindset before being completely healed by Chopper.
1Macro
Macro Pirates
Not to be confused with Marco the Phoenix, Macro was a fishman pirate captain who formed his own crewafter leaving the legendary Sun Pirates. Like most other Fishmen, Macro does not rely on Devil Fruits for his power; instead using Fishman Karate to beat up his foes. The only problem is that he is a relatively weak example of a Fishman, making him the quintessential filler character.
Macro and his crew only appear twice, both times chasing after Camie, the mermaid and getting beat up by Hatchan as a result. They only meet the Straw Hat crew once when they ambush them alongside the Flying Fish Riders but don’t even get to talk to them as they’re punched to the stratosphere by Hatchan once again, Team Rocket style.
