Arcane Season 2, Episode 3
Ambess Medarawas a wild cardwhen she appeared in season one ofArcane. However, in season two, it quickly becomes clear that she has much more nefarious goals in mind for Piltover as the story progresses. It’s shown that Ambessa has been pulling all the strings in the shadows, which only her daughter can feel the tug of.
While in most of the show, Ambessa appears as an iron fortress of a woman, for one moment in season two, fans see a chip in her iron armor when her hand is forced. While speaking to Salo, he remarks about her daughter. This sparks a reaction rarely seen from the calm and controlled Ambessa: She warns the young aristocrat to watch his mouth. This moment is vital, as it shows just how grave of a threat Ambessa is running from and what her priorities truly are.
5"I Used To Say I Could Fix Anything, That Was Before I Broke Everything" - Jinx
Episode two ofArcanefinally gives fans their first view ofJinx, voiced byElla Purnell, since her terrorist attack and the climax of season one. Shrouded and running away from the world, Jinx grieves alone over the death of the only person who ever felt like a father and the only sister she’s ever known.
Walking the streets of Zaun as everything slowly falls apart as a direct result of her actions, Jinx reminisces about how she used to be the perfect tool, and now she has nothing and maybe no one. This line proves that Jinx wants to be wanted more than anything, a desperate cry stemming from her intense sense of abandonment.
4"Any Time It Rains, It’s Zaun That Gets Wet" - Ekko
Ekkois the least problematic character inArcaneand has shown up as the voice of reason more than once. While most in the Undercity have either given in to their darker desires or selfish nature, Ekko took it upon himself to be a beacon of light for his people. Offering a safe haven and any resources at his disposal, Ekko and his Firelights fight back against all threats, foreign and domestic, a shining example of what revolution looks like.
For the first time, Jayce and Ekko meet to seek the source of the corruption spreading throughout Piltover. Upon discovering the wild rune, Ekko remarks how Topside continues to make progress and leaves the consequences of said progress to those hidden beneath their grandeur.
3"Hextech May Keep Us Alive, But It Won’t Be What Saves Us" - Caitlyn
Caitlynretreats to a familiar place after a messy first argument with Vi. Trying to escape being swallowed by her grief, Jayce interrupts her solitude. The long history between the two seems to still be intact, even after the dreadful events that befell the council.
However, both have changed into completely different people in what seems to be no time at all. Thinking toward the future and what might be in store for Piltover, and if magic and weaponry join as one to protect the people above from those below, Caitlyn has this perfect retort to the possibility of all-out war with Zaun.
2"The Hole Gets Smaller, But You Never Fill It" - Vi
As the memorial service for the fallen council members is underway, not a second of peace can be found for Caitlyn orVias an attack on the ceremony by Zaun zealots erupts, causing chaos. After a heated battle, Caitlyn is left on edge as even the memory of her mother is destroyed by people she doesn’t understand.
Only anger sits in her heart, overriding her grief and becoming easy to cling to. While pouring her heart out to Vi, Caitlyn’s frustration brings the truth out of her lips that she’s trying to measure up to her mother and move past her loss. However, with a lengthy history of loss, Vi reveals a hard truth: that grief doesn’t disappear, it just gets harder to feel.
1"Every Action Sparks A Reaction" - Heimerdinger
Ekko andHeimerdinger’snewfound friendship is one of the shining beacons of hope that everything will be ok as long as those two work together. An unnerving discovery sends both on an investigation that takes them topside to Jayce in search of answers. It is here that Ekko once again discovers that Piltover’s progress comes at the expense of Zaun’s existence.
As the trio dives deeper into what may be causing the Wild Runes to appear in both locations, Heimerdinger lets fly one of his many drops of wisdom learned throughout his lengthy life.
