The long wait to finally see the newSupermanin action might be ending even sooner than previously thought. In fact, there’s a decent chance that DCU fans are just weeks away from getting a first glance atSuperman: Legacybefore the seven-month-long wait for the entire film to hit theaters.
There has been much talk aboutSuperman: Legacygetting its first trailersometime in December. DCU chief James Gunn has all but confirmed those rumors by making it clear he’d finished work on the video and that it was coming “soon.” However, many reports indicated that the trailer might not arrive until Christmas Day. The most sensible arrival date until now appeared to be on TV in the middle of Christmas Day NBA games. But it sounds like the trailer might give fans an early present.
Superman: Legacy trailer coming before Christmas?
A recent report fromColliderindicates that while things aren’t set in stone, the publication has heard from sources that the first onscreen sighting of David Corenswet as the Man of Steel will be in a trailer justahead ofDisney’s Mufasa: The Lion King. That means that moviegoers will get to see the firstSuperman: Legacytrailer en masse on December 19, almost a week before Christmas. It stands to reason the trailer will hit televisions and streaming about the same time. Though it would be a stroke fo genius by James Gunn if he made anyone who didn’t want to go see the latestLion Kingmovie to wait until Christmas Day to see it any other way. Of course, that would run the risk of people videoing the trailer on their phones in the theater.
All of this is still just conjecture at this point. Generally an announcement about aSuperman: Legacytrailer wouldn’t come until right before its release. Most often fans just get a one-day lead to prepare themselves for whatever’s coming. Once it arrives, fans will finally get a good idea of justwho will factor into the movie, both good and bad. Though of course, people know that Corenswet is the newest Superman and Rachel Brosnahan will be his forever love interest, Lois Lane.
The big question remains just who will beall the villainsand potential teammates inSuperman: Legacy. Gunn has made it clear that the main story involves a fight or fights between Kal-El and Lex Luthor. However, onset photos have showed the film might focus around those two, but they’re far from the only comic book legends to get screen time.
Superman: Legacyhas the honor of being the first blockbuster movie of the new DCU. Debuting in theaters next July, it will follow the first foray into this new universe that is set to include both animated and live-action TV shows as well as more movies inCreature Commandos. Gunn has already given a sneak peek into how these first few projects will tie together by saying that Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. will appear in the film,Creature CommandosandPeacemakerSeason 2, which debuts about a month after the movie.
