The PS5 Slim was the second iteration of the original PS5 from 2020. Sony usually refreshes its PS console with a slim variant during its lifecycle and these versions are typically just smaller with a more optimized use of the internal space. With the PS5 Slim, Sony has done much the same with a more compact console, but with a few quirks.
The PS5 Slim uses five heat pipes rather than the regular’s four for improved heat dissipation. It has a redesigned heatsink as well, which, despite the shrunken overall size of the console, helps maintain temperatures effectively.
It should be noted that there is no real-world performance difference between the regular and the Slim PS5. So, if you already have a regular PS5, there wouldn’t be a need to go for the Slim version. The stand that allows placing the console vertically is still sold separately, and there is only one controller in the box.
