Summary
ConcernedApe has issued a message to theStardew Valleycommunity regarding the game’s recent update and its broken mods. While most gamers who enjoy mods are accustomed to them occasionally breaking following game updates, it seems ConcernedApe did something a little differently when releasingStardew Valley’s latest patch. That’s led to a bit more of a problem than usual for mods and modders.
Stardew Valley’s 1.6 updatehas been a success on mobile and console, but not without some hiccups. Some bugs have popped up that have led to additional patches being issued, but it seems that there’s still one lingering problem that’s outside the usual scope for the developer.
In a new message from ConcernedApe, the developer explained that most of the timeStardew Valleyis approaching the release of an update, he coordinates with the team behind SMAPI, aStardew mod loader, which is independent of the game. This coordination allows updates for both the game and the mod loader to go live around the same time, so while individual mods may be hit-or-miss, the launcher for them will work properly as the patch rolls out. However, he forgot to do it this time around, so the SMAPI team has been stuck catching up.
ConcernedApe Will Try and Avoid This Issue Happening Again
In his post, ConcernedApe continued, saying that he would do three things to help keep this from happening again. The game is stable, so the title will receive patches less frequently for any remaining issues. He’s added a previous_version beta branch on Steam, which is currently set to 1.6.13, and he’ll be coordinating withSMAPI for all future updates. He went on to say that while these frequent updates have been frustrating for some, getting the vanilla game in proper running order is his top priority, and that usually leads to a brief period where patches are frequent.
While some have been outspoken in their frustration aboutStardew Valley’s latest update breaking mods, many have taken the opportunity to share theirappreciation for ConcernedApe. The developer has continuously worked on this game for nearly a decade, with every update being completely free. After waiting so long for the 1.6Stardew Valleyupdate, it’s clear that some are frustrated and just want to be able to play. Thankfully, it sounds like this issue should be fixed fairly soon, and the base game is now stable, ensuring that at least a portion of the fanbase is likely satisfied right now.
