Square Enix has temporarily delistedTriangle Strategyfrom the Nintendo Switch eShop in early December 2024. The unexpected move won’t prevent Switch users who already ownTriangle Strategyfrom playing it.
Triangle Strategyis a strategy RPGco-developed by Tokyo-based Artdink Corporation and Square Enix. It originally debuted as a Nintendo Switch exclusive in early March 2022 before launching for PC in mid-October of the same year. The game most recently made its way to VR platforms, debuting for the Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro on July 13, 2025.
A month later, Square Enix delisted the originalSwitch version ofTriangle Strategyfrom the Nintendo eShop. The Japanese gaming giant confirmed the move on December 1, describing the delisting as a temporary measure. Anyone who already owns the Switch port of the strategy RPG will still be able to download and play it unimpeded, Square Enix said. The publisher did not reveal when the 2022 title is expected to return to Nintendo’s digital storefront.
Triangle Strategy’s eShop Delisting May Signal a Publisher Change
Another thing that Square Enix didn’t say is what caused the game’s sudden eShop removal in the first place. Although the delisting itself came out of the blue, this is not an unprecedented occurrence, as the Japanese publisher regularly pulls its titles from digital storefronts for a variety of reasons, not all of which are publicly communicated. In this particular instance, the delisting may signal a publisher change, something that’s not possible to do with eShop titles without temporarily removing them from the Switch storefront.
A similar situation occurred in March 2024, whenOctopath Travelerwas removed from the eShopand reappeared six weeks later, now published by Square Enix instead of Nintendo. Notably, the newly delisted version ofTriangle Strategywas also a temporary Switch exclusive published by Nintendo.
New Triangle Strategy Console Ports Might Be on the Horizon
An eShop publisher change could hint at new ports being on the horizon. For instance,Octopath Travelermade its way to PlayStation consolesjust six weeks after returning to the eShop in April 2024, now with Square Enix listed as its publisher. AdditionalTriangle Strategyports would align with Square Enix’s recently announced pivot toward multi-platform publishing at the expense of exclusivity deals, which haven’t been serving it as well as they used to as of late. If theTriangle Strategydelisting is indeed similar to theOctopath Travelerone, the game will plausibly return to the eShop by early 2025 and potentially make its way to PlayStation, Xbox, or both shortly afterward.
