Sega’sSonic the Hedgehogfranchise and its collaboration with multinational golf gaming company Topgolf launches on June 12, 2025. This brand-newSonic the Hedgehog-themed golf game features characters and elements from Sega’s franchise. Iconic faces like Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles, are playable in the game, and the courses take the form of locations from the franchise as well.
Topgolf has a variety ofgolf-themed games, using a combination of a physical driving range bay and virtual segments to try and complete an objective. These activities range from needing to score multiple points by sinking the golf ball into nine sections or simply getting closest to the hole. There are also crossover games at Topgolf, such as one based onAngry Birdsand the player needing to knock down a virtual tower using their golf balls. TheSonic the Hedgehogcollaboration will use a similar format and gameplay style.
Just like the other games at Topgolf, theSonic the Hedgehogvariant uses a combination of physical golf clubs, tracker balls, and virtual environments. Combining thefast-paced action of theSonicserieswith elements of golf results in a game where players have to hit their balls to guide either Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy around the course. Depending on where the player ends up hitting the ball, their characters can collect rings, jump off springs, and destroy badniks along the way, trying to get the best score in the familiar locales of Green Hill Zone or Sky Sanctuary. All Topgolf locations in the U.S. and Glasgow will launch this variant on November 15.
When Is Sonic the Hedgehog Coming to Topgolf?
Additional Toptracer-enabled franchise venues will have localized versions of thisSoniccollaboration in Q1 2025. This collaboration with Topgolf is the first time that theSonicfranchisehas done a golf-themed sports game spin-off. Topgolf is offering players 30 minutes of free play time with any walk-in reservation using a special redeemable code. In addition, Topgolf will have exclusive limited-timeSonic the Hedgehog-themed merchandise at every venue, which includes hats, sweatshirts, and T-shirts.
Sega has been growing theSonicfranchise into multiple media avenues outside the games, as seen with the collaborations it has done in the past few years. Earlier this year,Sonic Superstarshad an exclusive collaboration with iHOP, releasing a retro diner costume for Amy Rose to wear in-game. TheSonicvideo games have also been on fire lately, as seen with how the latest release,Sonic X Shadow Generations, sold over a million units on launch day. Sonic is also gearing up for his third film appearance this December, which also features his black-and-red doppelganger rival, Shadow, in a starring role.
