Summary
Silent Hill 2developer Bloober Team has released a brand-new update for the 2024 remake, which aims to address a magnitude of issues on both PlayStation 5 and PC, with the most notable being a fix for graphical glitches on the PS5 Pro. While Sony’s new flagship console promised a better visual experience for numerous triple-a titles such asSilent Hill 2,Call of Duty: Black Ops 6,Marvel’s Spider-Man, and more, a plethora of gamers have been experiencing a variety of graphical issues since the Pro’s launch earlier this month.
Along with a variety of other massive titles, the 2024 remake ofSilent Hill 2has been experiencing severe graphical issues on the PS5 Pro. While Bloober Team’s remake of this classic Konami game has received high praise from both critics and players, the community was left disappointed at the launch of the PS5 Pro after discovering numerous graphical issues such as shimmering shadows and flickering reflections. In a newYouTube video, the Digital Foundry team discovered that there was a “clear issue” with its PSSR implementation that ultimately led to a better experience on the base PS5. Thankfully, a new patch looks to have addressed these issues for Pro users.
Bloober Team has officially deployed a new patch update forSilent Hill 2on November 22, with patch 1.06 now available to download on both PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. While there are a plethora of fixes for both the console and PC versions of the game, it is thePS5 Pro version ofSilent Hill 2that will likely benefit the most from the latest update. According to the official patch notes, which can be found further down this article, Bloober Team has “fixed some graphics glitches on PlayStation 5 Pro.” It’s currently unclear how big of an improvement the November 22 update will have, but players should hopefully find fewer texture issues on the new console after downloading and installing patch 1.06.
While today’s update is great news forSilent Hill 2fans, it’s not the only triple-a title experiencing issues on Sony’s mid-gen console refresh.Call of Duty: Black Ops 6players are also reporting graphical glitches on the PS5 Pro, with textures shimmering when the game is in 60 FPS mode. Even some of PlayStation’s first-party titles, likeMarvel’s Spider-Man,are reportedly encountering similar issues, with many speculating that the console’s PSSR feature is the main cause. According to Sony, PSSR, which is an abbreviation of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, allows for “super sharp image clarity” by using machine learning to improve the resolution while still maintaining the same performance, but it seems to be causing a wide range of issues for the console.
The console itself has been a controversial addition to the PlayStation 5 family, and while plenty of developers have opted to support it with new patches, CD Projekt Red recently confirmed it wouldnot be releasing a PS5 Pro patch forCyberpunk 2077, its massively popular open-world action-RPG. There are, however, a wide range of other titles releasing PS5 Pro updates, includingGod of War Ragnarok,Alan Wake 2,Hogwarts Legacy, and many more.
