TheOne Piecetime skip occurred after the events of Marineford, where Luffylost his brother, Ace, in one ofthe saddest moments of the series. After realizing that he and his crew are far too weak to survive in the New World, the Straw Hats decide to remain separated for two years, training to become as strong as possible before reuniting. After two years, the crew met once again on Sabaody before continuing on their quest for the One Piece.

This moment marked a pivotal moment in the series' history, making for the perfect opportunity to “age up” the Straw Hats. While allthe Straw Hat crewremains fundamentally the same, each of them has grown in their own unique ways. This is especially important since the series itself was also growing as well, focusing on mature, larger-scale plots that the pre-time skip Straw Hats would be ill-equipped to handle.
A Time Skip Could Wrap Up the Story of One Piece

Although Luffy and the Straw Hats are probably strong and mature enough to take on most threats intheOne Pieceuniverse, another time skip may be a great way to show off the futures of each of the characters. Potentially, after Luffy and the crew find the mythical One Piece, Oda could add another time skip that shows off the Straw Hats at the height of their pirating career. While something like this could feel a bit cheesy at first, it may be the best way to show Luffy reach his full potential as the Pirate King.
Additionally, Luffy and his crew have somebig goals in the world ofOne Piece. With Chopper wanting to cure every disease, Sanji wanting to find the mythical All-Blue, and Nami wanting to map the entire world, wrapping up some of the Straw Hats goals in the Final Saga ofOne Piecewould feel extremely rushed and far too convenient. However, if there was a time skip that showed the future of the Straw Hats, Oda could give fans a chance to see the progression that each Straw Hat took to finish their goals.

Although showing the future of the Straw Hats would be a nice way to confirm that the crew is doing well, it could feel like a cheesy way to wrap up such an amazing series. Additionally,One Piecehas always thrived with its open-ended mysteries. Having the series end right after Luffy finds the One Piece may be a stronger decision, putting more emphasis on Luffy achieving his dreams.

With so many loose ends that need to be tied up throughout theOne Pieceworld, a simple time skip may not cover everything, always leaving one small thing up to speculation. Overall, it’s up to Oda to decide if there will be another time skip before the end of the series. The only thing fans can be certain of is that, so far, the journey to the end ofOne Piecehas been an amazing ride.
