The saga of the Golden Idol continues with Chapter 4 ofThe Rise of the Golden Idol, the sequel to the popular point-and-click titleThe Case of the Golden Idol. At this point in the story, players know about the artifact’s checkered past, and it’s time to move into the present and future.

The settings in this chapter are unique, moving away from the lab and the Harmony Foundationto more random venues. Examples include an apartment building, an aviary, and a private living room. This time, however, players get to see the results of experiments with the Golden Idol, and the subjects of these tests often suffer a grim fate.

Chapter 4

The Trials

Chapter 4 is one of the longer sections ofTRotGI,and there’s a fairamount of new informationfor players to find and understand. There are four scenarios, but the advantage is that they aren’t that long or complicated, and players can still use the previous chapters for reference.

Names

It’s recommended that the player finish this section first to makeTriggersandEventseasier. Most of them are the names of birds and the three people involved haven’t appeared before.

Triggers

This scenario starts by focusing on the birds instead of people. The solution to this puzzlecan also be used to solve theNamessection.

Events

This is one of the longer text puzzles, but it tells the basic story of the scenario and is easy to put together once the other sections are completed.

The sections entitledSymbolsandTransfersappear in the first scenario but can’t be completed until all four are completed.

Pandemonium At The Stardust Variety Hour

All ofthese characters are new, so previous references won’t help in this puzzle. Luckily, there’s plenty of documentation scattered around the screen to determine who is who.

Rankings

Part of solving the Rankings section isn’t only about who did win, but who didn’t. Starting with the lower ranks, as opposed to the winners, is helpful in this puzzle.

The Events section describes what happened just before the player entered the scene, and it’s fairly obvious once the Rankings are determined.

Atharv’s Winning Act

This very brief chapter includes a familiar face from the Auction House and is connected to the artifacts that she purchased and was pursuing. This Events puzzle includes a video for reference and the words are only missing from the second sentence.

A High-Rise Tragedy

This high rise has a lot of tenants, so this is one of the longest lists of names inRotGIthat the player has to fill out. Use the pictures along with the clues inside the apartments to help.

Residents

This is fairly simple to complete after the player has completed the names section and looked at the apartments.

Lavona Colms

Photos

This brief section is moreabout finding out whowas taking pictures and when.

Information for this section is mostly found in the tenants' apartments, contained in notes, photos, recorded messages, and snippets of dialogue.
