Sam Lake Wants to Work With David Lynch

It’s still too early in the piece for Remedy and Annapurna to announce any key creatives for these game adaptations, but Lake did speak withIGNabout some hopes he has for the projects. Remedy’s creative director said he was excited about the partnership with Annapurna and said they are currently “exploring ideas.”Alan WakeandControlboth share a style that is heavily influenced by the works of David Lynch, the creator ofTwin Peaks, Eraserhead,andMulholland Drive, to name a few. Lake has been open aboutLynch inspiring his workand said it would “be cool” for the legendary director to become a collaborator on Remedy’s screen projects. However, Lake tempered expectations, saying it’s too early in the process to name names and that he has never even met Lynch. Although he added he would “love to have a conversation.”

“I would love to meet [David Lynch]. I have never met him, unfortunately. I would love to have a conversation about just creating things, stories, and anything.”

Lynch’s last major release as a director was in 2017 withTwin Peaks: The Return, which saw himrevive his most famous IPin a sequel series that was very well received. However, these days, Lynch is battling emphysema after a lifelong smoking addiction, which keeps him relatively homebound and off movie sets. In a recent interview withPeople, Lynch said he would be open to trying to direct projects remotely, but there’s always the possibility he could board theAlan WakeorControladaptations in a producer or creative collaborator role.

Lots of Hollywood Creatives Are Turning to Game Adaptations

Plenty of majorHollywood creatives have turned to gaming adaptationsin recent years.District 9’sNeil Blomkamp directed theGran Turismomovie adaptation in 2023, and Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the team behindWestworld, recently found success with Prime Video’sFalloutseries. More recently it was announced thatRonald D. Moore had boarded theGod of Waradaptationat Amazon. It’s clear that video game adaptations are a hot commodity right now. Should Lynch decide he wants to enter that world, his guidance and expertise on theControlandAlan Wakeadaptations would be one of the most logical matches made in heaven.
