Summary

One ofPokemon GO’s newest additions, Reward Road, is upsetting players of the mobile game. Although the Reward Road program is limited to a portion of the playerbase at this time,Pokemon GOfans have been quick to voice their feelings on it and share disapproval of this new program.

Pokemon GOis constantly undergoing changes and additions, with one of the most recent major overhauls being theaddition of Gigantamax Pokemon. Fans had been waiting for this unique Pokemon form to come to the game for a long time, but the release of it upset players due to the number of requirements involved and the difficulty of finding groups to battle with. Now, a new microtransaction-related program is upsetting players.

Pokemon GOis currently testing theReward Road programin Australia and New Zealand, with the potential for it to go worldwide. According toPokemon GO, Reward Road is something of a bonus program that gives players additional rewards for spending money. to unlock the rewards, players have to spend real-world money in the game, which gradually unlocks tiers of bonuses, a bit like agaming season pass. While getting a bonus when spending money a player would have put down anyway could be a good thing, the way it’s being handled is bothering players.

Pokemon GO Fans React to Reward Road

The main issues fans have brought up with the Reward Road program is the quality of the rewards, the amount of money needed to be spent, and the way the points are handled. The rewards vary in quality depending upon the tier accessed, with 3000 points needed to unlock everything in a single month. However, players estimate that someone would need to spend $500 USD in order to access all the tiers. Since the rewards change every month, players would have to spend a ton of cash in order to unlock everything, creating a sense of FOMO.

To make matters worse, Reward Road points expire at the end of each month. If a player doesn’t use them, or doesn’t have enough to get what they want, there’s no way to roll over to the next month’s rewards. Further complicating matters is the fact that players have to redeem their rewards online via a website and can’t do it through the app.

In general, players seem to be burned out on microtransactions and feel the game is adding too many of them. For some players, Reward Road will likely be a nice bonus, but it’s not likely to be very helpful for those who spend little money in the game. It’s possible that Niantic could change the program before it releases to the everyone, or it could even end up getting scrapped after the testing period. For now, players have to wait and see, and with any luck,Niantic is listening.
