Summary

ThePlayStation Portalhas received a new system update that adds support for cloud streaming for select PS5 games, but the feature itself is still in beta. At launch, thePlayStation Portalallowed users to stream their PlayStation 5 games directly to the handheld device from anywhere in the world, as long as both devices had a stable internet connection. Now, thanks to the handheld device’s latest update, fans can stream certain games straight to the Portal without the need for a PS5 console, but a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription is required.

Unfortunately, Sony’s latest handheld device doesn’t allow users to play games natively like the good old days of the PlayStation Portable. But it didn’t take long for engineers tohack the PlayStation Portal and play PSP gameswithout the need for a PlayStation 5. Although Sony has since patched the hack, the Portal is about to become a whole lot more enticing thanks to a new system update that adds a highly requested cloud streaming feature.

PlayStation Portal

While not exactly a PSP successor, the PlayStation Portal solves an age-old issue of having to share one TV in a household. This remote play device allows users to stream whatever is happening on their PlayStation 5’s directly to the large 8-inch 1080p LCD screen. What makes the PlayStation Portal unique is that it comes packed with all the advanced technology of the DualSense wireless controller, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. One downside is that it doesn’t feature Bluetooth support for wireless audio, but it does work with the PlayStation Pulse earbuds and headset, while also sporting a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio.
