PlayStation 5 Owners Want 30th Anniversary Features to Stick Around

Fans expected the 30th-anniversary consoles and accessories to be the peak of Sony’s celebrations, but anew PS5 updateshocked fans earlier this week by adding new theme options and a nostalgic start-up screen that took fans back to the days of the original PlayStation. Users can now change the console’s background and audio to various generations, including the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. Unfortunately, upon booting up the console for the first time after the December 2 update, Sony informs users that the new features are “for a limited time” and has not provided PS5 users with a specific date for when these new customization options will become unavailable.

Ever since thePlayStation 5’s releasein 2020, fans have been begging Sony to add themes, similar to its predecessors, the PlayStation 3 and 4. While the recent update hasn’t exactly opened the floodgates, it has finally allowed for some customization options, and fans don’t want to see them removed anytime soon. Over on Reddit, multiple posts are begging Sony not to remove the new features, with Reddit userMarc978even going as far as to say that they would “probably buy it” if the company were to charge for the themes.

Whether or not Sony will hold firm with the features being a limited-time addition remains unknown, but there are plenty of other ongoing events for PlayStation gamers to get stuck into. On the same day as the recent PS5 update, Sony announced some massive30th anniversary discounts on the PlayStation Store. From December 2 to December 20, PlayStation fans can check out the massive sale, which features nearly 500 discounts on some massive titles likeMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales,God of War,Ghost of Tsushima, and many more.
