Pizza Hut thinks thePlayStation 5can be more than just a video game console. Gaming and pizza have always gone hand in hand, but now the Hut is bringing them closer than ever with the release of the PIZZAWRMR, an attachment that channels the heat from aPS5to keep slices warm.
Oddly enough, this is not the first time someone has thought of using Sony’s flagship console as a unique, if expensive, way to store a slice. Earlier in 2024, someonesold a PS5 dev kit as a “pizza kit"on eBay. The developer version of the device featured a V-shaped indentation where one could theoretically place a piece of pizza, but this certainly wasn’t Sony’s intention. It also wasn’t an official listing from a restaurant with a global presence, as this latest Pizza Hut invention has proven to be.
Pizza Hut Canada first teased the PIZZAWRMR on its YouTube channel on October 29. While the restaurant isn’t selling the device, itnow offers the 3D printing fileson its website, where anyone brave enough to try it can download them and put their machine to work. The PIZZAWRMR itself is relatively straightforward. A series of air channels direct heat from the PS5’s exhaust to flow underneath a plastic shelf where users place their slices, while a laptop-style lid keeps the warmth inside until gamers are ready to have a bite. Considering howoverheating PS5s have melted USB portsbefore, there could theoretically be enough heat to keep pizza hot.
The PIZZAWRMR Continues a Tradition of Fast Food Gaming Tie-Ins
The PIZZAWRMR is not an officially licensed Sony product, and hungry gamers should proceed with caution. Pizza Hut recommends using food-safe PLA to print the parts to avoid any plastic-related health concerns or unwanted messes. Covering up a console’s heat exhaust is also usually not a good idea. While that should go without saying, Nintendo felt the need towarn how dog urine could damage a Switch, so another strange console warning may be necessary here. Grease and excess heat may not be the best things for a PS5.
As odd as it seems, the PIZZAWRMR is the latest in an ongoing tradition of fast-food companies capitalizing on the gaming industry. In 2020,KFC released its own console, complete with a built-in chicken warmer. The Hut itself has also undertaken plenty of official video game tie-ins, too, though these have typically been in-game items or limited edition pizza boxes, not console accessories. For anyone who’s ever dreamed of bringing their food and games closer together, though, today is a good day to own a 3D printer.
