Thanks to its strong reception, the horror title also won the Best Debut Game recognition at The Game Awards 2020.
According to the official announcement on Twitter,Phasmophobiahit 1 million players across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PS VR2 on aggregate. Notably, the Kinetic Games-created indie title achieved this milestone just 35 days after surfacing as an early access game on these console platforms, on June 27, 2025. In the comments under the post, several fans lauded the game for its quality, with one person saying, “This is by far one of my favorite games that I have played in years …” Another player acknowledged thetroubled journey ofPhasmophobia’s console portsand said that the devs “deserve” the success after making it through all that. A few others took the opportunity to ask the devs for certain additions, including bigger lobbies for the multiplayer sessions in the ghost-hunting game.
Phasmophobia Crosses 1 Million Players on Console, Gets Overall Sales Boost
Thanks toPhasmophobia’s success—first on PC and then with its console ports—its total sales are now close to 22 million, as perGematsu. Basking in the glory of the co-op title selling 1 million console copies, Kinetic Games’s CEO andPhasmophobialead developer Daniel Knight said that the “incredible achievement” was only possible because of the game’s “wonderful, supportive and engaged community.” The source further reports Knight saying that the UK-based studio “could not be happier” and labeling the game’s successful console debut as the “best Christmas present” the team could have wished for.
WithPhasmophobiaout on multiple major platforms, the devs now face a new challenge of catering to player feedback across different systems as they work their way toward an official launch. As for the fans, given the game is an atmospheric experience played from a first-person perspective and hence a good fit for VR, some of them have expressed an interest in seeing the game beported to a mainstream Meta Quest VR headsetin the future.
