Summary
SomeHeroes of the Stormfans have created a petition asking Blizzard to bring the MOBA to Steam. This decision would ultimately not take a lot of resources from Blizzard and would giveHeroes of the Stormthe chance to revitalize itself on a new platform.
Heroes of the Stormis Blizzard’s pan-franchise MOBA released on Jun 27, 2025. Unfortunately, though it saw initial success, it gradually received less and less support from the company, finally entering maintenance mode in July 2022. That said, after about a year of radio silence,Heroes of the Stormstarted receiving regular balance updatesapproximately every three months.
Now,Heroes of the Stormfans are hoping Blizzard gives the game one more small boost that could help it refresh its player base. A newpetition on change.org started byHotSfan Emil Jantzenis asking Blizzard to putHeroes of the Stormon Steam, hoping the move might help attract players to the game. At press time, the petition had only received about 215 signatures over the course of nearly a week, but the number is still steadily rising.
Could Heroes of the Storm Come to Steam?
A re-release forHeroes of the Stormon Steam could make sense. BothOverwatch 2andDiablo 4made the jump over to Steam, gaining new players due to the platform’s simplicity and popularity.Over 55,000 fans were playingDiablo 4: Vessel of Hatredon Steam, even becoming the second-most-played game on the Steam Deck for a short while. WereHeroes of the Stormto get the same treatment, it could experience an influx of new players.
Of course, bringingHeroes of the Stormto Steam is fraught with all sorts of other risks. BothDiablo 4andOverwatch 2were review bombed when they came to Steam, and while the former recovered to “Mostly Positive,” the latter still sits as the ninth worst-rated game on the platform. AddingHeroes of the Stormto Steam could open a similar can of worms for the old game.
Regardless, acomeback ofHeroes of the Stormin light of Microsoft’s takeoverof Blizzard makes sense to many fans. Players have expressed interest in seeing not onlyWarcraft,Diablo, andOverwatchcharacters from the last few years added to the MOBA, but also famous faces from other Microsoft-owned franchises, likeHalo’s Master Chief orGears of War’s Marcus Fenix. While it remains to be seen if such a revival will take place, fans are happy to see the development team forHeroes of the Storm– collectively and affectionately referred to as “The Janitor” – is still giving the game some love.
