Summary
Open-world survival gameDeadsidehas left its Steam Early Access period after four years, marking the occasion with a massive 1.0 update.Deadside’s fullSteamrelease has also seen the game drop to 20% off, available for $19.99 for a limited time.
Deadsidewas first released on Steam Early Access back in April 2020, debuting at a peak of 9,581 concurrent players. To date, it remains the most popular the game has ever been, despiteDeadsideevolving in the years since. Developer Bad Pixel has madegreat use of Early AccessforDeadside, taking as much time as it needs throughout the process while remaining committed to its development. Plenty of Early Access titles fall on either side of the extreme - either rushing out of Early Access before it’s ready, or simply never making it out at all. It seems thatDeadsidehas gotten it just right.
In a post onSteam, developer Bad Pixel revealed all the details ofDeadside’s 1.0 launch update. There’s much to unpack here, as it was no minor update. Among the highlights include new vehicles, the addition of bleed damage, and a new foraging system, but that barely scratches the surface of this update. There has been a new massive map expansion, adding an entire airfield toDeadside. Several existing systems have been overhauled, too. The new Base Building 2.0 system expands on thebase building inDeadside, while the same can be said of Raiding and Progression 2.0, among plenty of other additions. It might be the biggest update to the game in a long time, and for the release version, rightfully so.
Deadside Releases Out of Early Access After Four Years
A glance at the SteamDB player charts forDeadsidereveals that the 1.0 release has attracted tons of attention for the game. In recent months, the game has very rarely broken the 1,000-player mark and very frequently dropped under 500 concurrent players. However, post-release,Deadsidehas reached a peak of 3,593 concurrent players, a number that is still growing at the time of writing. Whether this will be enough to cementDeadsideas one of thebest survival gamesin the eyes of the community is yet to be seen. Its “Mostly Positive” reviews on Steam suggest the game is popular with players so far.
Post-launch, Bad Pixel has confirmed that it plans to “improve and updateDeadsidefor as long as we have a community to support. Leaving early access won’t be changing that.” It has also asked for community ideas for futureDeadsidecontent, although it hasn’t provided a long-term roadmap for what is to come. With a 20% discount on the game bringing it down to $19.99 until December 19, it could be the time for players looking for agame to play likeDayZ, or something equivalent in the open-world survival genre, to pick this one up.
