Summary

Loki has finally beenofficially introduced to the storyduringOne Piece’smost recent arc, Elbaph. The new Prince of the Giants has already become an imposing figure in the series, through words alone, generating massive amounts of intrigue for just what his role in the story might be. However, despite only recently being shown in the story, the character has been mentioned for a fairly long time.

Interestingly enough, Loki’s first mention in theOne Piecestory doesn’t seem to line up exactly with his most modern appearance. In his first appearance, Loki was rejected by Charlotte Lola, leading to a failed alliance between the giants and Big Mom pirates. Although this moment may seem small, if Loki actually married Lola inOne Piece, the entire world would most likely face some dire consequences.

Lola Rejected Loki Before the Start of One Piece

Freedom Over Marriage

As mentioned above, Loki was first mentioned duringOne Piece’sWhole Cake Island Arcin Chapter 858. During this chapter, it is revealed that Big Mom, who is attempting to improve relations between all ofOne Piece’sraces, was attempting to marry her daughter Lola to Loki. However, Lola ran away to pursue her dream of becoming a pirate, leaving Loki heartbroken.

If Lola became a Princess of Elbaph, she could overcome her longstanding antagonism with giants.

This moment is interesting for two reasons. First, Big Mom has a very uneasy relationship with the giants andOne Piece’sElbaph Island. In her past, the former Emperor had destroyed a large portion of their city and disrespected their traditions. Second, Loki is not the eldest son of the royal giant family. In fact, he is currently locked away in the Underworld of Elbaph, specifically being restrained for murdering his father and stealing a Devil Fruit meant for the future leader of Elbaph.

Loki May Have Wanted an Alliance

Big Mom Pirates Plus Giants

Just looking at the characters in general, it seems that in many ways the two are completely incompatible. Whilethe newerOne Piececharacter, Loki, seems fairly evil and wild, Lola is a much kinder person and a free spirit. Additionally, Loki and Lola’s marriage proposal would have to be some time before he was locked up, around 6 years before Elbaph, otherwise the event would not improve the Big Mom pirate’s relationship with the giants.

There is a chance that Loki ofOne Piece’sland of giantsdesired more than just Lola’s hand in marriage. In fact, by allying himself with the Big Mom pirates, the giant could have easily usurped the kingdom of Elbaph, rather than letting Shanks claim the territory for himself. This could have made it much easier to reach the position as king, and allow him to take the mysterious stolen Devil Fruit without being imprisoned.

Loki Was Actually In Love With Lola

A Happy Ending?

However, it seems that more likely thePrince of Elbaph Lokiwas actually in love with Lola and completely heartbroken by her rejection. Loki, after the refusal by Lola, was actually offered Chiffon’s, Lola’s twin sister, hand in marriage. The prince rejected the offer, squashing any hopes that the giant kingdom and Big Mom Pirates would unite. If Loki was only intending to marry the Big Mom pirates to use their forces, he wouldn’t have been so picky.

Do you want to make a deal, Luffy?

If Lola married Loki, he may have chosen a completely different path in life, choosing family over a chance to take over the kingdom of Elbaph. Perhaps, rather thanusurping the family Devil Fruit, Loki would have been more appreciative of his station in life. Perhaps, with the power of the Big Mom pirates behind him, he would have felt much more fulfilled in his ambitions, rather than feeling the need to become more powerful.

So far, it’s impossible to tell just whereOne Piece’sElbaph Arcis going to go in the future. Loki’s motives, personality, and power all remain a mystery, spawning so much speculation in theOne Piececommunity. However, one thing about his personality is almost certain. Loki seemed to have a genuine love for Lola that left him shattered after her rejection. If Lola and Loki had been married, Elbaph would be a much different, and arguably nicer arc.
