The baseball animeOblivion Battery(Boukyaku Battery) has officially announced it will be back for a second season. There has been a bit of a gap between the first season airing and this announcement coming, which makes it a relief for fans who may have been hoping for an announcement closer to the end of the first season.
The announcement of a second season came via a short video. This video was posted on Kadokawa’s official JapaneseYouTubepage at the start of the week. Within 3 days, the announcement of a second season forOblivion Batteryhad already gained over 140,000 views and nearly 400 comments.

Oblivion Batteryis a sports anime based on a manga of the same name, created by Eko Mikawa. The manga was originally published in April 2018 on theShōnen Jump+website. The 20th volume of the manga is set to be released this December, showing that readership of the original story is still high.Oblivion Battery’s anime adaptation aired on April 10th, 2024, as part of the Spring 2024 Anime Season. It had 12 episodes in its first season, and was streamed simultaneously byCrunchyrollinternationally alongside its release in Japan.

Haruka Kiyomine and Kei Kaname were once recognized as the most formidable pitcher-catcher duo in middle school baseball. Known as the “General,” Kaname paired his expert strategies with Kiyomine’s explosive pitches, crushing the dreams of many starry-eyed players who hoped to one day make it to the big leagues.
High school freshman Tarou Yamada is one such former player. Having given up on competing, he enrolls in Kotesashi High School—a completely average public school with no baseball team to speak of—where he discovers that his new classmates are the legendary pair who once destroyed his dreams. Adding to this shocking revelation, he learns thatamnesia has reducedthe once level-headed General to a vulgar class clown. Having lost all interest in baseball, Kaname dragged a disappointed Kiyomine to Kotesashi simply because the school was close to where they live.
As Kotesashi forms a fledgling baseball club, Yamada meets other players he once admired who also left baseball behind. While they might be unwilling now, Yamada believes that if he can convince such talented athletes to start playing again, it might be possible to achieve their dreams and win the national championship—as long as they can put up with Kaname’s incessant joking.
Sports anime has continued to be popularfor years after the genre started to take over. Oblivion Battery’s renewal shows that they are still getting plenty of fans despite so many sports anime being available now. The first season scored a solid 7.5 on MyAnimeList, and was saved by over 37,000 members.

What Do We Know?
As the announcement of a second season forOblivion Batteryis so new, there is very little information available at this time. However, the YouTube video did announce the characters, and the voice cast, that are going to be returning. These are
Oblivion Battery’s official Japanese website has also updated to include the announcement of another season, but with little other information. If the anime is going to air next year, it islikely that some key visualsor a PV may be released before the end of 2024. These will likely come alongside an air date, soOblivion Batteryfans will have to wait a little longer for more details. For now, they can console themselves with the knowledge that the anime will continue, and studio MAPPA is actively working on the project.
