Summary
NetherRealm has just shown off more Ghostface gameplay ahead of the killer’sMortal Kombat 1debut next week, including a brand new Fatality and look at their Animality.Mortal Kombathas seen guest appearances from plenty of iconic horror movie villains, andScream’s infamous Ghostface killer will be the first guest DLC fighter inMortal Kombat 1’s Kombat Pack 2. Theatergoers were first introduced to Ghostface in 1996, and the masked slasher of Woodsboro has been a staple of the Halloween season since.
The developers at NetherRelam have certainly done their homework when it comes to bringing silver-screen killers like Ghostface into the world ofMortal Kombat, as shown in the different gameplay trailers released in the build-up to Ghostface being added on November 19. Ghostface isn’t particularly flashy in the movies, andtheirMortal Kombat 1movesetseems focused on brutally stabbing and slashing at their opponent with their famous knife. Many of Ghostface’s moves and introductions feature multiple killers, a nod to there always being more than one person behind the mask in theScreamfilms.
Fans recently got to see more ofMortal Kombat 1’s version of Ghostfacein action during thelatest Kombat Kast livestream, with a gruesome montage of gameplay footage that ended in Ghostface performing a Fatality on Sub-Zero. The killer starts by slashing the ninja’s throat before brutally stabbing him to death as the screen pans out to a frustrated player struggling in vain to regain control of the fight. This player is none other than Johnny Cage, who complains about how he was beaten by “a dude with a knife” before being ambushed by a second Ghostface.
Ghostface Goes Meta With New Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality
This newly-revealed Ghostface Fatality is the second one to be revealed ahead oftheMortal Kombat 1DLC’s release, but it fits perfectly withScream’s meta-commentary on the horror movie genre by having the real victim be someone playing a video game and quickly finding themselves in the same situation as their onscreen character. The first Ghostface Fatality similarly paid homage to some of theScreamfranchise’s most famous kills, particularly the scene in the first film where Ghostface is reflected in the eye of Henry Winkler’s doomed Principal Himbry.
Fatalities aren’t the only finishing moves in Ghostface’sMortal Kombat 1arsenal, as the latest trailer ends with aquick glimpse of the killer’s Animality. Khaos Reigns saw the return of these animal-based finishers, with Ghostface transforming into a buzzard and gruesomely picking out Geras’s internal organs. Gamers won’t have to wait too much longer to see how the rest of this grizzly scene plays out, as Ghostface is set to go live on November 19.
