Mortal Kombat 1’s Ghostface DLC is now live, and fans now know the identity of at least one of the killers behind the mask. The dreaded Ghostface killer ofScreamfame is one of three special guest characters coming toMortal Kombat 1as part of the Kombat Pack 2 DLC, and players have been buzzing at the idea of stepping into the arena as one of cinema’s most iconic horror villains. Ghostface’sMortal Kombat 1moveset is packed with references to theScreammovies, and NetherRealm even paid homage to the fact that there is more than one culprit behind the classic Ghostface costume at any given time.
Just like 2023’sScream 6,Mortal Kombat 1has three Ghostfaces working together to spread fear and death among the game’s roster, sparking plenty of fan speculation about who they could be ahead of the DLC’s release. In a clever twist, one of the culprits is from the originalScream, recruiting two Black Dragon members asthe otherMortal Kombat 1Ghostface killers. Players have spent the past week or so picking apart the most recent Kombat Kast livestream for clues about the identities of these two, called The Enforcer and The Assassin, but now the truth about the one commanding them has been brought to light.
Whenever a masked character falls victim to a Fatality or Fatal Blow inMortal Kombat 1, their mask inexplicably disappears, and this also rings true for Ghostface. As shown in a clip shared by Twitter user BoogieBoysGoBoo, this reveals that the main Ghostface isBilly Loomis from the originalScreamfilm, as the killer’s facial model resembles a young Skeet Ulrich. In the movie, Billy and his partner Stu Macher were the ones who originated the Ghostface legacy, terrorizing the town of Woodsboro out of revenge for their troubled lives and to gain infamy as serial killers.
Original Ghostface Billy Loomis Returns in Mortal Kombat 1
Bill Loomis is ultimately killed by Sidney Prescott at the end of the originalScreammovie, but his shadow would fall over the rest of the series. His mother, Nancy Loomis, sought to avenge him asone of the Ghostface killers ofScream 2, and his estranged daughter, Sam Carpenter, was one of the main protagonists in the two most recentScreammovies. His appearance inMortal Kombat 1is filled with references to theScreammovies, with one pre-fight interaction ending with him saying that “movies don’t make psychos, they make psychos more creative," a line he tells Syndey in the first film.
Now it seems that Billy Loomis has pulled another page from the classic slasher villain playbook by inexplicably returning from the dead to kill again inMortal Kombat 1, with his identity serving as a treat for fans ofthe long-runningScreamfilm franchise.It still isn’t clear who the other two Ghostface killers are inMortal Kombat 1, but the most popular fan theory is that they are Kobra and Kira fromMortal Kombat Deceptiondue to certain moves they pull off in-game.
