Summary

Ghostface will soon strike inMortal Kombat 1, and some fans think they’ve managed to unmask the killer(s) as two relatively obscure Kombatants from past games.Mortal Kombat 1has seen plenty of guest fighters, and the Ghostface killer from theScreamfranchise will join them on November 19. As any fan of theScreammovies can attest, part of the terror of Ghostface is the notion that it could be anyone under the iconic Fun World “Peanut-Eyed Ghost” mask, and there is usually more than one Ghostface active at a time.

This week’s Kombat Kast livestream shed some light onMortal Kombat 1’s version of Ghostface, confirming that there are three killers like last year’sScream 6. The first is said to be “the original Ghostface” (presumably either Billy Loomis or Stu Macher from the firstScreamfilm), while NetherRealm revealed that the other two are members of the villainous Black Dragon clan that have been recruited to help carry out Ghostface’s latest rampage. So far, these two are simply known as The Enforcer and The Assassin, and players can switch between them during certain attacks.

This still doesn’t answer the question of who exactly isbehind the iconic Ghostface maskinMortal Kombat 1, but longtime fans have already worked out a pretty good guess as to who The Enforcer and Assassin are based on the moves they perform in the recentMortal Kombat 1Ghostface gameplay trailer. As pointed out by Reddit user plastic-person180 on r/MortalKombat, The Enforcer (who wields a flat knife) is seen pulling off a flaming backflip kick that was previously used by Kobra, while The Assassin (who holds a curved knife) strikes with an upward slash like Kira.

Fans Think Mortal Kombat 1’s Ghostfaces Are Kobra and Kira

Kobra was first introduced as amember of the Black Dragon inMortal Kombat: Deception, where he was recruited by Kabal to help spread anarchy using his ruthless street fighting skills. Kira also debuted inDeception, and her level-headed demeanor contrasted with the more aggressive Kobra. Neither of these two killers-for-hire has been playable in a mainlineMortal Kombatgame sinceMortal Kombat: Armageddon, and most fans weren’t expecting them to be brought into the rebootedMortal Kombat 1timeline until now.

Kobra and Kira are both certainly sadistic enough to serve the role of Ghostface, and having the killers be formerMortal Kombatcharacters would certainly explain howthe normally mortal Ghostfacecan hold his their againstMortal Kombat 1’s cast of martial artists, ninja warriors, and all-powerful gods. Of course, the true identity of Ghostface probably won’t be revealed until their Arcade mode ending, and players will only have to wait until November 19 to see it for themselves.
