When it comes to giving players choices,Marvel Rivalsdoes a great job with itswide selection of heroes and villainsthat can take part in its different game modes and maps. Depending on your preference, you could be storming the frontlines, supporting your teammates, or being precise from range to help your team to victory.
Even for the more recognizable characters, you will need to master just how they play in order to be successful in the 6v6 format. As the master of magnetism, Magneto will likely be a popular choice for many who love the X-Men IP, and as a Vanguard role, is a great choice for those who like to get out in front. Here’s everything you will need to know to play this character effectively inMarvel Rivals.
All Magneto Abilities in Marvel Rivals
As a two-star character, Magento isrelatively easy to useinMarvel Rivals, and in the hands of an adept player, can be a force to be reckoned with both on the offense and for the defense. He is able to protect allies from projectiles using shields and can deal hefty damage with his slow-firing abilities.
His Ultimate Ability is also very strong, pulling in nearby projectiles to build up a blast that can knock out several opponents at once, but watch out, as the ball of metal can explode if you hold it for too long and cause team damage instead.
Here are all of his abilities and what they do:
Iron Volley
Normal Attack
Fire a volley of magnetic orbs forward. The range of the resulting explosion increases based on the distance flown.
Metallic Curtain
Ability
Change the magnetic field around to form a metallic curtain, blocking all incoming Projectiles from the front.
Metal Bulwark
Conjure a metal shield around a chosen ally. Damage taken will transform into rings on Magneto’s back.
Iron Bulwark
Conjure an iron shield around Magneto. Damage taken will transform into rings on Magneto’s back.
Mag-Cannon
Convert iron rings on Magneto’s back into a Mag-Cannon and launch a metallic mass forward. Higher stacks of rings increase damage, and full stacks Knock Back enemies.
Meteor M
Ultimate Ability
Draw in all materials around to forge an iron meteor that deals massive damage upon impact. Absorbing enemy Projectiles can enhance the meteor’s power, yet overloading will cause it to self-destruct.
Metallic Fusion
Team-Up Ability
Scarlet Witch can infuse Chaos Energy into Magneto to enchant his greatsword. Upon receiving the Chaos Energy, Magneto can unleash its full force, striking down enemies with his enchanted greatsword.
Tips and Tricks for Playing Magneto in Marvel Rivals
Using Magneto means getting out in front of the team, performing the role of a Vanguard by protecting and absorbing ranged damage using the variety of shields available. That doesn’t mean he is not great on offense, on the contrary, the various shields contribute vital iron rings that can make the Mag-Cannon a true enemy killer at the right time. Learning how best to position and time Magneto’s slower attacks will give you the best chance of succeeding inMarvel Rivals.
You do have to watch out for how slow Magneto feels compared to therest of the charactersin the game, which means you have to make things count whenever possible. Coordinated attacks with Magneto at the front will be very effective, and smart use of shields on allies and yourself can mean coming out unscathed, even in the face of damaging Ultimate Abilities.
Use Distance to Your Advantage
On its own, Iron Volley may be too slow for some’s liking, but its real utility is the AoE explosion it can cause at range. Once you nail down the sweet spot of how far you may be from your targets, you can worry less about accuracy and use the AoE splash damage to damage foes. This also ensures you can stay safe from danger, and use your shields against attacks that you will undoubtedly see coming.
That added distance also gives you more time to recharge Mag-Cannon without using your shields, and any enemy close to death can be easily eliminated with a direct hit. Just take note of the added time required to fire it off, and you are one step closer to victory.
Stick with Your Team
Unlike flankers such asSpider-Man, who can go off on their own, Magneto is best when sticking close to your team. The slower nature of the character means it can be difficult to go toe to toe with faster characters, and being near others means your shields are actually going to useful. Pushing forward using Metallic Curtain can help with progressing your positions, while both Metal and Iron Bulwark can give your stronger characters the edge when chasing down the enemy team.
The bonus of recharging your iron rings while providing protection means you’re able to also contribute with hard-hitting Mag-Cannon shots, so you will always be helpful no matter what.
Team Up With Scarlet Witch
When using Magneto, it is best if your team hasScarlet Witchalongto team upwith, which gives your character a much more potent attack up close. When Metallic Fusion is activated, you no longer have to fear any enemy coming close to you and being too slow to deal with them. The enchanted greatsword deals significantly more damage than using it normally or even Iron Volley and is much faster as well.
This makes it a foolish endeavor for any enemies hoping to get the drop on you, but of course, if you don’t have Scarlet Witch by your side, then that potential is lost.
