Summary

According to a supposed insider, NetherRealm has decided to scrap its plans for anotherMortal Kombat 1story expansion and wave of DLC fighters. Earlier this year,Mortal Kombat 1released its first story-based DLC expansion, titled Khaos Reigns. This new storyline picks up where the ending of the base game left off, with the world ofMortal Kombat 1being threatened by an alternate version of Havok that aims to unleash anarchy throughout the multiverse.

Khaos Reigns introduced new versions of classicMortal Kombatcharacters Noob Saibot (a twisted version of Sub-Zero who is brainwashed into being Titan Havok’s lackey), Sektor (who is reimagined as a loyal member of the Lin Kuei clan driven to restore Bi-Han), and Cyrax (a more noble Lin Kuei who ultimately defects and joins Scorpion’s rival Shirai Ryu). Just like with the previousMortal Kombat 1DLC pack,Kombat Pack 2 includes three special guest characters, withScream’s Ghostface recently being added earlier this month. The masked killer will soon be joined by Conan the Barbarian and the T-1000 from theTerminatorfilms.

However, it looks like Kombat Pack 2 might be the last batch ofnew content coming toMortal Kombat 1, at least according to a leaker and Reddit user by the handle of_FateUnknown_. During a discussion about a recent rumor onr/Mortalkombatleaks, _FateUnknown_ stated that there isn’t going to be a Kombat Pack 3, later clarifying inanother threadthat both this hypothetical Kombat Pack and a second story campaign were originally planned for the game until NetherRealm decided to scrap them. They add that there could be another Kameo Fighter or two released, since NetherRealm had reportedly already started work on them before this decision.

Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack 3 Has Reportedly Been Scrapped Following Low Khaos Reigns Sales

When asked what drove NetherRealm to cancel its futureMortal Kombat 1DLC plans, the supposed leaker cited the poor sales of Khaos Reigns. Many other Reddit users in the comments aren’t surprised, claiming thatthe previousMortal Kombat 1DLCwas being offered at too high a price and expressing frustration regarding the expansion’s lackluster plot. Some have stated that they are waiting for Khaos Reigns to be offered up at a discount before trying it out for themselves.

Of course, this is all just a secondhand account from a supposed leaker, with no way to know if their claims are accurate until NetherRealm makes an official announcement. Even if this rumor is true,Mortal Kombat 1still has two Kombat Pack 2 guest fighters to releasein the form of Conanand T-1000. After that, it remains anyone’s guess what NetherRealm is going to do for its next fighting game project, be it anotherMortal Kombatsequel or the long-awaitedInjustice 3.
