MAJOR SPOILERS for Arcane season 2 ahead.
TheLeague of Legendsuniverse is vast, and two seasons ofArcaneare just the beginning of bringing the lore to the mainstream. Because it’s difficult to fit every detail into 40-minute episodes,League of Legendsadded a mini-game calledJinx Fixes Everything, which shows Jinx’s point of view during key moments, along with some minor details that weren’t included inArcane.
Jinx Fixes Everythingis divided into three acts, each featuring different locations and tasks that Jinx needs to accomplish, such as building a new mechanical arm for Sevika, fixing the jukebox in The Last Drop, and building a new weapon to prepare for the defense of Piltover. One could argue that these moments should’ve been included inArcane, and while that is valid, the show can still stand on its own without the minor details. At the same time,League of Legends' mini-games are also great for adding more nuance to stories, especially with more shows on the way.
Future League of Legends Shows Could Benefit From Mini-Games Like Jinx Fixes Everything
League of Legendsis surrounded by content that’s important to the lore, includingJinx Fixes EverythingforArcane. What’s great about the mini-game is it shows a glimpse of Jinx’s thoughts while doing her tasks and exploring familiar places in moments fans didn’t get to see on the show. In particular,Act 3 of the mini-game takes place in the Firelights' hideout, where Jinx upgrades her gun and rocket launcher. Jinx also talks about missing her fallen adoptive sister Isha, who she says would have loved to see the beautiful hideout if she was still alive. These are details thatArcanemight not otherwise have had time for.
After the final season ofArcane, showrunner and Riot Games creative director Christian Linke said during aconversation withLeague of Legendscontent creator Necritthat the team will be developing moreshows based in otherLeague of Legendsregions like Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia. This would be a good opportunity forLeague of Legendsto get new mini-games in the future that also provide supplementary details to the story that probably wouldn’t make it to the shows.
The final episode ofArcaneheavily teased that the next series might focus on the region of Noxus because one of Swain’s crows shows up in Piltover. Mel Medarda might also take up the responsibilities of her late mother, Ambessa Medarda, once she returns to Noxus.
In the past, Riot Forge existed to bring certain champions' stories to life through spin-off games. SinceRiot Forge shut down, Riot Games seems like it’s planning to rely more on limited-time events within theLoLclient, TV shows covering different regions, novels likeAmbessa: Chosen of the Wolf, and the rest ofLeague of Legends' video game spin-off IP, likeLegends of Runeterra, to further expand the franchise’s lore.
Although it only contains minor details that may not heavily affectArcane’s plot,Jinx Fixes Everythingdefinitely sets the standard in adding more nuance toLeague of Legends' upcoming shows. This could be especially important if Mel Medarda becomes a key character in the rumored Noxus series and a potential playable champion inLeague of Legends, as a mini-game could be the perfect way to shed light on Noxus' inner workings and the cryptic Black Rose.
