Summary

WithDaredevil: Born Againjust months away from its Disney Plus premiere, fans wonder if any characters from Netflix’s other Marvel shows likeJessica Jonesor Luke Cage will return to theMCU. Unfortunately, one actor from the Marvel Netflix era doubts they’ll be invited back.

Netflix’s Marvel shows were always billed as part of theMCUbut seemingly had a loose connection in practice. Characters like Daredevil or Jessica Jones would oddly only refer to the Avengers as “the big green guy” or “the guy with the hammer” and the MCU movies ignored the Netflix Marvel characters entirely. After Netflix canceled all of its Marvel shows, Marvel Studios finally properly brought characters like Daredevil and Kingpin into the MCU for projects likeSpider-Man: No Way HomeandHawkeye, respectively, before giving themthe spotlight forDaredevil: Born Again. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks they’ll be given the same opportunity.

During an interview withThe Directto promote her new filmDie Alone, Carrie-Anne Moss expressed doubts that she’ll reprise her role as Jeri Hogarth fromJessica Jones. It’s not that Moss isn’t interested in returning to the role, as she explained that Jeri Hogarth is one of her favorite roles and she’d love to play the character again. However, Moss indicated that her intuition tells her an invitation to the MCU isn’t in her future:

I loved playing her. I really don’t pay much attention [to] what’s happening with that whole universe. I loved playing her, one of my favorite roles I’ve ever played. I would, of course, love to play her again, but I don’t see that. I’m pretty intuitive. I don’t feel that coming my way. But I don’t know.

Moss' doubts are not unfounded. As of this writing, Marvel Studios has not announced plans to bring back any characters from Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, or Iron Fist. So far, only characters from Netflix’sDaredevilare returning to the MCU. Yes,Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher returns inDaredevil: Born Again, but that incarnation of the character first appeared in Netflix’s Daredevil before receiving his spinoff.

Of course,Daredevil: Born Againcould feature a surprise appearance or reference to characters from the other Netflix Marvel shows.Jessica Jones actress Krysten Ritter seemingly hintedat an MCU return in the past, but fans possibly were reading too much into her posts. It’s understandable why fans are looking for any hope of Jessica Jones' return to the MCU. WhileDaredevilwas arguably Netflix’s most successful Marvel series,Jessica Joneswas undoubtedly a close second (if not the first). Fans would be ecstatic if Jessica Jones and her cohorts, like Jeri Hogarth, returned and were able to interact with MCU characters like the Avengers.

Unfortunately, there are no announced plans to introduce Daredevil’s fellowDefenders into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Surprises may be in store, but fans must be content with Daredevil, Kingpin, Karen Page’s, and Foggy Nelson’sMCUreturn for now.
