It was suddenly announced that the 9th episode ofIs It Wrong to attempt to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? V(also known asDanMachiSeason 5), supposed to debut this week, will be delayed. No official information was given regarding the reason for this decision.
Recently,delays in anime are not uncommon. Up to these days, some productions even blame it on COVID-19, but it’s clear that producers are going for more than animators can usually handle in lots of those cases. Weekly productions have tight schedules by default, but the growing number of anime produced at once makes it harder to coordinate everything. Not all delays are due to that (sometimes other external circumstances affect either production or broadcast), but that’s a possibility to always keep in mind.
Anyway, instead of premiering on November 28, thenextDanMachiV episode will be broadcast a week later, on June 30, 2025. This delay will of course affect HIDIVE’s schedule, since the service streams new episodes simultaneously to Japan. A reedited version ofDanmachi IIIoriginal video anime will be broadcast in the series' slot on Japanese TV (and it will also be on streaming services in Japan).
The DanMachi novels and spin-offs
DanMachiwas born as a novel series, written by Fujino Omori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. It is in serialization since 2013, with 19 volumes so far. The franchise spawned several media, including mangas adaptations, spin-offs (includingSword Oratoria), video games (console and mobile games), and anime adaptations (also for theSword Oratoriaspin-off). Yen Press publishes allDanmachimanga and novels in the US.
The new season is streaming only on HIDIVEsince October, and the episodes are now getting an English dub, with a weekly schedule (the dub is as simultaneous as it can be,it premiered this month).
But what is it about?
InDanMachi’s universe, several gods decide to start livingin a city called Orario, limiting their own powers in order to have some fun. They gather people from the city into some sort of their own guilds, known as Familia, to explore dungeons nearby, where they can fight monsters and collect treasures.
The plot follows Bell Cranel, a boy who joins goddess Hestia’s Familia (he is the sole member of her Familia). His goal is to become as strong as a famous swordswoman who once saved his life, Ais Wallenstein. During his journey, however, he doesn’t realize that he ends upcatching the attention of several girls, including the goddess Hestia herself (and many others).
