Summary

Horror movies and fan theories often go hand in hand, but there seem to be a lot of ideas about whatScream 7could be about. I’ve been enjoying reading all the news about my favorite slasher franchise, fromMatthew Lillard’s commentstothe movie’s release date. I also like thinking about what Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) could be up to (while fighting Ghostface and saving her friends and family, of course).

Since fans won’t get to seeScream 7until February 2026, a lot of fan theories are circulating online. While reading various fan theories about the upcoming horror sequel,I found a great fan theory on Reddit that I think makes total sense. It’s smart, creative, and would work great for the next installment in this popular franchise.

I Think This Scream 7 Fan Theory Is Great

Redditor @NewRetroMagehas an idea:what ifScream 7was set betweenScream 4andScream (2022)? The fan explained that the slasher franchise could be inspired bySaw X, the 2003 movie that takes place betweenSawandSaw 2. The Redditor explained:

“Taking a cue from how wellSaw Xworked, I’d make Scream 7 be set between 4 and 5. So Dewey is still alive and we see Sidney’s final change, from the already bada** survivor from 4 to the Ghostface hunter she was on 5.”

The fan continued:

“make it about how the new Ghostface doesn’t initially target Sidney but changes goals along the way, and make so Dewey and Gale go help Sid and also end up divorcing, so we see how they broke up and why Dewey was such a mess during 5.”

I love this idea as I think it would solve a few problems. For one thing, it would help fill in the holes and gaps in Sidney’s character arc. I liked seeing Sidney come back forScream (2022), but I was a bit disappointed with how little she was actually in the movie. It would make a lot more sense to set a new movie between the fourth and fifth movies so fans could learn more about what Sidney was doing for so many years.Sidney should feel different inScream 7because she’s older and has dealt with Ghostface for so long. But I think that fans need to find out more about who she is now that she’s no longer a teenage final girl.

This fan theory forScream 7would alsohelp explain Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Dewey Riley’s (David Arquette) divorce. Learning that they split up was shocking, and fans didn’t feel like they got enough details. I want to seean amazing and intelligent Gale inScream 7,and hopefully, she’ll help lead the charge against Ghostface. However, I also want to learn more about this part of her personal life.

I also love the idea of settingScream 7in the past. It’s great that there areso many fan theories that stand outbecauseScream 7shouldn’t just copy previous movies. Changing up the timeline would definitely be a great way to make sure the movie feels unique.

What Is The Story Of Scream 7?

While I love this fan theory from Reddit aboutScream 7possibly being set betweenScream 4andScream (2022), this doesn’t seem likely to happen. Horror fans have heard for a while now thatScream 7will be about Sidney Prescott’s familyand, therefore, it seems like the story will take place right afterScream 6. This will allow the franchise to focus on Sidney’s grown-up life. Hopefully, audiences will hear a little bit about any big moments (both good and bad) that have happened to her in the past few years..

Despite the lack of plot details, fans have come up with ideas aboutScream 7. Some think it’s possible thatone of Sidney’s children could be Ghostface. Others wonder if there isa way to bring Dewey Riley back.

Even though I wish there was more information aboutScream 7, I can’t wait to see Neve Campbell play Sidney again, and she is also pleased that she’s coming back.Campbell appeared onGood Morning Americain July 2024and I loved hearing what she had to say about filming the slasher franchise:

“We had such a beautiful experience on that [film], a lot of fun, and obviously its success was exciting. But we’ve had a blast on all of them to be honest.”
