WhileDragon Quest 3 Remakehas several dungeons for you to explore, the second main dungeon you encounter will be thePyramid. After storming the Dreamer’s Tower and earning the Thief’s Key, players must navigate this ancient tomb and collect the Magic Key. Here, we will present players with acomplete guide to the Great PyramidinDragon Quest 3 Remake, including thelocation of all treasure, and a complete list ofevery enemyyou’ll face.

How to Reach the Pyramid in Dragon Quest 3 Remake

ThePyramiddungeon can be found near the center of the western continent, on the northern edge of the desert region. South of the Pyramid, players will findIbis,a western outpost which features the game’s second Monster Arena. Ibis is the perfect location to rest up before taking on thePyramid. Of course, if you’ve unlockedZoom, you can return to any location you please to rest.

ThePyramidis a massive dungeon, and you’ll only need to visit a small portion of it to acquire the Magic Key and continue on your way. However, in this guide, we will not only walk you through the main quest, but also revealevery treasure and secret inDragon Quest 3 Remake’s Pyramid dungeon.

Important Items:

Aside from the normal healing items, make sure to bring Dazzle-me-Not. You will be extremely thankful during the boss fight. If you have any accessories or armor that help against Dazzle, bring it and use it at the end.

When you first reach the Pyramid inDragon Quest 3 Remake, you’ll see that there are two entrances. The main entrance, and a secret entrance along the western base of the Pyramid. Don’t worry about the western entrance at the beginning, as it leads to the basement level. You can reach the basement from inside the Pyramid, which you’ll do later, after completing everything else.

Pyramid Walkthrough First Floor 1F – Dragon Quest 3 Remake

Pyramid 1F Main Path:

When you first enter the Pyramid inDragon Quest 3 Remake, you’ll be faced with a long, straight corridor. If you open the map, you’ll see that there are two forks in the path you’ll encounter. Approach the first fork slowly, and pay attention to the light gray area in the center of the floor that depicts ascale. This entire section of the floor is atrap, and will drop you into thebasementif you fall through.

The large gray floor tiles marked with ascalearetrapsthatdrop you into the basement. If you fall into the basement, be careful, asyou cannot use spells. This applies to all characters and enemies. While there are secrets in the basement, for now you’ll want to reach the exit as quickly as possible. See the basement map for the exit route.

If you are under-leveled, the first floor of the Pyramid can be formidable, and it only gets worse. We first entered the Pyramid with our Hero at level 10, and met our end multiple times. We returned at level 12, with all of our party at or above that level. Here is the list of enemies we encountered on the first floor (see the All Enemies section for weaknesses):

When you encounter an enemy group that features aBag o' Laughs, it is worth taking it out first, as it has the ability to heal itself and others. TheGrillerpillaruses flame, which the party can be particularly susceptible to early-on.OvertoadandMummy Boyboth back a hard punch, especially when you are under-leveled.

All Treasure on Pyramid 1F:

To reach treasures 8-12, you need to head up to the second floor 2F, then take the northwestern stairs back to 1F. See the ma above.

TheCanniboxis a living chest enemy that is capable of doing massive damage. However, they offer a large XP reward, so they are well worth the fight. They are all weak toFirespells and abilities, so you should focus on using attacks with that element.

Pyramid Walkthrough Second Floor 2F – Dragon Quest 3 Remake

Pyramid 2F Main Path:

If you are looking to just make your way through 2F as quickly as possible, you can head directly south as soon as you reach the top of the stairs that brought you up from 1F. Head west when you reach the end of the path, and you’ll eventually see stairs at the path’s halfway point. Take the stairs up to reach 3F. If you want to collect the treasure on 2F, see the section below.

The enemies on 2F remain the same as on 1F. It seems possible that the Bag o' Laughs appear in higher numbers, so keep an eye out for that. Otherwise, the strategies and weaknesses from 1F will still apply on 2F.

Pyramid Walkthrough Third Floor 3F (Button Puzzle) – Dragon Quest 3 Remake

Pyramid 3F Main Path:

When you reach the top of the stairs that lead up to 3F, take a moment to look at the map. You’ll see a symmetrical layout with two chambers in each northern corner, and two identical areas in the southern corners. In the center is the path that leads to thePyramid’s final boss. However, you cannot get past the door that leads to the boss’s chamber just yet. To do that, you’ll need to complete thePyramid Round Sun Small Button Puzzle.

It’s important to note that there is nothing you can do on the Pyramid’s upper levels until you get the Magic Key.

If you haven’t been to the Basement Level, you’ll encounterMummyandWalking Corpsefor the first time on 3F. The Mummyis a stronger version of Mummy Boy. Mummy can call in Walking Corpse as backup. Both are weak to fire.

If you head to either chamber in the southern corner of 3F, you’ll find several buttons that you can press. This is theRoundSun Small Button Puzzle, and if you press the wrong button in the wrong order, you’ll be dropped to the floor below. See the solution below.

How to Solve the Pyramid Round Sun Button Puzzle in Dragon Quest 3 Remake:

If you head to the chamber in the northwest corner of 3F, you’ll find an NPC that provides a clue to thesolutionto theRound Sun Small Button puzzle.

The round button is the sun, the small button opens the way.

The easternmost west and the westernmost east…

Try pushing the sun button!

This clue can be incredibly confusing, as there is nothing that indicates any difference between the buttons. The simple answer is that you need to head to the easternmost button, along the eastern wall, and press that first. Then head to the westernmost button along the western wall, and press that button. For us, that is all that was required to cause the stone door to open.

DQ3-Kylla-Weakness

How to Defeat Ripper of the Rift – Dragon Quest 3 Remake

Unlike theDreamer’s Tower, the Pyramid has a full boss fight. When you enter the boss’s chamber, you’ll immediately be confronted byRipper of the Riftand twoKylla. The Ripper is the main enemy, with the Kylla acting as support.

Your first goal should bedefeating the Kylla, as they are capable of healing themselves and the Ripper. For our first attempt, we tried to focus on taking out the Ripper of the Rift first, and quickly paid the price. You may not have any electric spells likeZapyet, but you should haveLightning Slashfor the Hero. Use this to focus the Hero’s strike on the Kyllas main weakness:Electricity.

It shouldn’t take too long to defeat both Kylla in this way. As stated in the beginning, you should have a Priest or Monster Wrangler in your party for healing. You’ll likely have to keep them dedicated to that task. Obviously, the Priest will be better suited for this early on, but either will work.

Once the Kylla are gone, it’s time to focus onRipper of the Rift. Just like Kylla, they areweak to Electricity. There are several strategies that can work here. We had our Priest healing when needed, and casting debuffs any other turn. Then our Hero, Thief, and Mage would take turns pummeling the Ripper.

The Ripper of the Rift is no joke with their attacks. They usually attack twice per turn, doing considerable damage. Your goal should be to always keep the Hero above 50 health, as the Ripper can often do that much each turn if they focus both attacks on one party member. Chances are, if you enter the fight at or below level 12, you’ll be on the edge of dying much of the fight.

TheRipperloves toBedazzlethe party, so keep plenty of Dazzle-Me-Not in each member’s inventory.

Without the Kylla, however, it should not take too long for the Hero to kill the Ripper of the Rift with Lightning Slash. Ultimately, if you’re only attacking with the Hero, and using every other party member to keep them alive, that is fine. There are plenty of ways to get XP if one or more party members miss out because they are dead.

Once the Ripper is defeated, you’ll have access to two treasure chests:

With theMagic Key, you’ll now have access toevery blue door inDragon Quest 3 Remake.

Pyramid Walkthrough 4F, 5F, & Basement – Dragon Quest 3 Remake

Every remaining floor in the Pyramid is simply extra once you have the Magic Key.

Pyramid Floor 4F:

On floor 4F, you’ll find 14 treasure chests behind a Blue Door. These treasure chests are all cursed, and will cause you to automatically enter a fight encounter when opened. If you have confidence in your party, this can be a great way to gain XP. However, you can also come back any time in the future.

The enemies you’ll encounter during these fights are the same as floor 3, but they will also include Kylla. When they do, the XP reward can be much higher.

Pyramid Floor 5F:

There is aTreasure Cheston the fifth floor, and a set of stairs that leads to outside the Pyramid. From the top, you may safely jump down the Pyramid to the bottom.

Pyramid Basement Golden Claws:

Make your way back to theBasement level to collect one of the game’s most interesting items. If you look at the map, you’ll see there are four corners that roughly make up a square. If you head to the northwestern corner, you’ll find a statue you can interact with, revealing a hidden passage.

Follow the passage down and then take the only path you can. This will lead to a large sarcophagus that the player can interact with upon approach. The game will ask you if you are sure you want to open it, and you should absolutely be sure before doing so.

Opening the sarcophagus in the Pyramid basement will grant you theGolden Claws. This item iscursed, and once you take it, you will have to complete encounters every few steps until you reach the exit. This can be incredibly formidable, mostly becauseyou cannot use spells in the Pyramid basement.

You may wish to return to the Pyramid later in the game to retrieve the claws. In the original, simply having the claws in your inventory was enough to increase your encounter rate. This is great for XP farming, but can be very difficult for newcomers.
