Flying mounts inWorld of Warcraftcome in all shapes, sizes, and forms. Most players start out with either a gryphon or wyvern (depending on your faction and if you are not a Druid) and then acquire more unique flying mounts as time goes on. Aside from being a way of getting around quicker, mounts can also have an element of prestige to them, especially when they come from a raid or high end PvP performance.
Mimiron’s Head is an example of the former. While Yogg-Saron is significantly easier to killthan he used to be, it doesn’t diminish the amount of time and effort players will need to put in if they want to fly around a giant mechagnome head.
Mimiron’s Head is a rare drop from Ulduar, a raid located in the northern edge of the Storm Peaks,Northrend. While Mimiron’s Head was once an exclusive drop to 25-Man difficulty for Ulduar, you can no longer select the size of the raid after the Timewalking version was relesed some years ago. There is also no Heroic version of the raid, but there is a hard mode version of a boss you will need to do to have even the slightest chance of Mimiron’s Head dropping.
Mimiron’s Head drops from the last boss of Ulduar, Yogg-Saron. Unlike later raids, there are no skips that allow you to go right to Yogg-Saron, so you will need to kill almost every boss first except for Razorscale, Ignis the Furnace Master, and Algalon.
As you defeat the four Keepers (Hodir, Mimiron, Freya, and Thorim), they will appear in the Observation Ring.Do not ask for their help against Yogg-Saron, as doing so will lock you out of the hard mode version of the Yogg-Saron fight, which is where Mimiron’s Head drops. If you are unfamiliar with Ulduar, here are a few things to keep in mind as you go through the raid.
Ulduar Walkthrough
The first encounter requires you to use a vehicle. At Level 70+ you can ignore all of this and just go right to the trash mobs at the end to start the Flame Leviathan encounter. However,if you do not use one of the Demolishers to destroy at least one of the pillars, you will not be able to get any loot off of Flame Leviathan. When you’ve destroyed at least one of the pillars, you can get off of the Demolisher and continue onward. Alternatively, you can go back, grab one of the motorcycles, and use that to get to Flame Leviathan.
After you’ve destroyed Flame Leviathan, go straight toward XT-002. Off to the left and right are two optional bosses. You don’t have to kill them if your goal is to try and get Mimiron’s Head. Kill XT-002 anduse the teleporter to go to the Antechamber of Ulduar. At the stairs, go left and kill the Assembly of Iron.
Return to the stairs, kill Kologarn and cross the chasm to reach the Observation Ring. From there, defeat Hodir, Mimiron, Freya, and Thorim to open the Ancient Gate of the Keepers at the Observation Ring, which leads down to the last two bosses: General Vezax and Yogg-Saron.
For Yogg-Saron, approach Sara to start the encounter. When the Guardians of Yogg-Saron spawn, kill them directly underneath Sara to damage her. Once she reaches one HP, the second phase will begin. Yogg-Saron will spawn, and you will get grabbed by a tentacle. Use AoE to kill the tentacle, kill the other tentacles, and then wait for the portals to appear around Yogg-Saron. Enter one of the portals, and you will be transported into one of three memories:
In each memory, there will be a bunch of neutral mobs. You must quickly kill all of them to open a chamber that leads to a large translucent brain. Do as much damage to the brain as possible to proceed to the final phase of this fight.
If the brain is about to finish casting Induce Madness, use the portal to get out of that chamber. Being in the brain room when the spell is finished casting will cause you to get mind controlled. If you are solo, this will instantly kill you.
When enough damage has been done to the brain, you will automatically get teleported out. Turn around, kill Yogg-Saron, and you will be able to loot the chest that appears near the door. If you are lucky, and if you are doing the fight on hard mode (no Keepers assisting you), it will have Mimiron’s Head in it. If not, there is always next week, since Ulduar can be farmed once per week per character.
Other Methods For Getting Mimiron’s Head
Mimiron’s Head can also be purhcased from the Black Market Auction House.Rare mountswill periodically show up for sale on there, and they also have a chance of being inside an Unclaimed Black Market Container. The contents of this box are random, so be mindful of that when you are bidding a large amount of gold on them in hopes it will have something good in there.
In addition, you also have a chance of getting both Mimiron’s Headand Invinciblefrom the box you get from completing the quest for Timewalking Ulduar during a week whenWrath of the Lich KingTimewalking is active.
