The Watchtower is a must-have structure when building a base inDayZ.It allows players to survey the land around their base, looking out for and defending against any intruders. How to build a Watchtower in DayZ
Before building the Watchtower inDayZ, players must first build theWatchtower Kit, which acts as the foundation. The Watchtower Kit can be crafted by combiningone Ropewith 4 Wooden Sticks.
Players should note that the side facing them will remain open and exposed to intruders. Therefore, it’s best to position the kit while facing away from the base.
Once the Watchtower Kit is correctly placed, players must then attach4 Wooden Logs into the BaseF1 slot in the Watchtower Kit’s inventory, and use a Pickaxe or Shovel to add them to the structure. There are three Base levels for the Watchtower, each requiring 4 Wooden Logs to build.
Once the base of the Watchtower is constructed, players will then have to build its walls. Each wall of the Watchtower will require either Planks or Sheet Metal and Nails to construct. Sheet Metal will provide higher defenses against raids, however Planks are much easier to acquire. Walls can be constructed with either a Hatchet or a Hammer. Once the level one walls are constructed, players will need Planks or Sheet Metal and 20 Nails to construct the ceiling. This will also require a Hatchet or Hammer to build. Walls will need to be constructed on each level of the Watchtower.
Next, building the Watchtower’s staircase requires Planks or Sheet Metal and 18 Nails to be constructed with a Hatchet or Hammer. Now that players can access the 2nd floor, they can construct the second-floor base with the aforementioned 4 Wooden Logs, and then repeat the wall, floor, and stair builds for the subsequent levels.
Many players struggle with building the second-floor base. To receive the prompt for this, ensure to stand at the top of the staircase and look down. Finally, once all 3 levels of the Watchtower are completed, players can finish off the build with the roof. The roof of the Watchtower can also be crafted with either Planks or Sheet Metal combined with Nails.
DayZ: Watchtower Defense and Stealth
It is highly recommended that players build their Watchtowers with Sheet Metal, as it is about twice as durable as Planks. For instance, Plank walls can withstand around 7 Grenades before collapsing, whereas Sheet Metal can endure twice as many.
Players are strongly advised to attach Camo Nets to their Watchtowers whenever possible, as they enhance stealth in wooded environments. This increases the chances of thebase locationbeing overlooked by other players.
