Speaking in a Q&A to reporters, perIndie Wire, HBO’s CEO Casey Bloys confirmed that Rowling remains “fairly involved” in the TV development of her books. He said, “[Rowling’s] been fairly involved in the process of selecting the writer and director,” while adding, “I imagine she’ll have opinions on casting. It hasn’t affected the casting or hiring of writers and production staff, so we haven’t felt an impact from that.”

However, it has since been reported byVarietythatMark Rylance is the number one choiceto take on the role of Professor Albus Dumbledore, another significant character in this story. As one of the most powerful wizards in existance, the character plays a crucial part in the overall story. During the movies, the role was first played by Richard Harris, and after his passing, it was taken on by Michael Gambon. In flashback scenes, Toby Regbo was showcased as a younger version of the character, while Jude Law played the iconic wizard in the prequelFantastic Beastsfranchise.

HBO has previously confirmed that the TV series will be afaithful adaptation of her originalHarry Potternovels, with each book slated to get its own individual season dedicated to it.Successionproducers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod have been hired to head the creative for this highly anticipated series, with Gardiner also set to work as the showrunner and executive producer. Meanwhile, Mylod will also executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the show. No premiere date has been announced at this stage, but it isn’t expected to beuntil 2027 at the earliestas the entire cast still needs to be put together.
