Rockstar’s games have been home to countless Easter eggs, references, and running gags over the last few decades, many of which have been cemented as some of the most iconic in all of gaming. The infamous Bigfoot sightings inGTA, theRed Dead Redemption 2witch, and many more in between, Rockstar’s Easter eggs are always a hot topic of discussion, even years after their game’s release. And withGrand Theft Auto 6likely being Rockstar’s biggest game to date, it’s sure to have more than its fair share of memorable Easter eggs.
WhileGrand Theft Auto 6’s map size hasn’t been fully revealed just yet, its reveal trailer did tease that players would get to explore at least three new regions. That’s a lot of space that can be used to hide Easter eggs, and there’s one classic Rockstar gag thatGTA 6just wouldn’t feel complete without.
Grand Theft Auto 6 Has The Perfect Opportunity to Shake Up a Classic Rockstar Easter Egg
A Brief History of Rockstar Games' UFO Easter Egg
Like many ofRockstar’s longest-running Easter eggs, the UFO gag started as a simple internet myth. Back whenGTA: San Andreaslaunched in 2004, some players swore they saw a UFO during their travels through the California-inspired setting. These players took to the internet to discuss their UFO sightings, and the rumor quickly began to spread.
WithBully’s release in 2006, Rockstar made a few nods to this infamousSan Andreasrumor. Players can see a triangular object floating in the skies above them, and in the Asylum players can find what seems to be the skeletal remains of an alien. Completing the Transistor mission for the homeless man sees him being raised into the sky by a tractor beam.
Grand Theft Auto 5leaned all the way into the UFO Easter egg, featuring it multiple times during its main story. A UFO can be spotted underneath some ice inGTA 5’s first mission, Michael experiences two hallucinations during the campaign that involve aliens, and getting 100% completion inGTA5spawns a few UFOs around the map. UFOs have also been a staple ofGTA Online’s annual Halloween events, with players needing to find and take pictures of multiple UFOs dotted around Los Santos and its surrounding area for cash.
EvenRed Dead Redemptionhas gotten in on the UFO craze, withRed Dead 2having its own UFO scavenger hunt. Entering a barn just north of Emerald Ranch will present the player with a bright green light shining from above. Looking up will reveal a UFO, which players can then find again a few times while exploringRed Dead 2’s open-world.
How GTA 6 Can Put a New Spin on Rockstar’s UFO Easter Egg
The UFO Easter egg has become a staple of Rockstar’s games, and it seems incredibly likely that it’ll show up inGrand Theft Auto 6once again. But the novelty surrounding a UFO sighting in a Rockstar game has worn off a little over the years. Any newUFO Easter egg inGTA 6is going to have to shake things up to really surprise fans.
Grand Theft Auto 6’s UFO Easter egg could take things further than they’ve ever gone before, and lean all the way into absurdist humor. Players could be abducted by aliens and taken up into space, where they need to complete a full-length breakout mission, complete with shootouts against aliens, ray guns, and even the ability to pilot a spacecraft. Hallucinations have already been used as an easy way to write-off previous alien-related missions, so there’s no reasonGTA 6couldn’t use the same premise to take everything just a few steps further.
