With the release ofHogwarts Legacy, Avalanche Software was able to deliver what many call the dreamHarry Pottergame. For the first time in an AAA title, players were able to explore Hogwarts, attend classes, and tell their own story rooted in the mythology of the iconic series. Because of its success, aHogwarts Legacy 2already seems to be looming on the horizon. And while there are many routes it could go, one addition could take theHogwarts Legacyconcept to incredible new heights.
Hogwarts Legacyaimed to deliveran authenticHarry Potterexperience, and although it was not perfect, it mostly delivered on that promise. Now that the foundations have been laid, Avalanche has the chance to expand upon it immensely with new classes, stories, locales, and Wizarding World secrets. But perhaps the greatest addition could come in the form of actual spellcrafting. As long as it sticks true to the lore of the franchise, a feature such as that may be exactly what the next adventure needs.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Dive Deep Into the Wizarding World
Harry Potter Has an Extensive History With Spellcrafting
Spellcrafting may simply sound like a fun way to combine iconic spells, but it is actuallyrooted in theHarry Pottermythos. Throughout the franchise’s timeline, many different witches and wizards created spells. Some of them barely did anything, while others became extremely important parts of the story. In fact, one of the major plot points ofHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Princeis the spells that Severus Snape created and filled an old potions book with. Additionally, many fans believe that Voldemort and Hermione created spells during their time.
Spellcrafting itself is no easy task, because if it was, then every wizard would likely attempt to do it. Only witches and wizards with a great understanding of magic have been able to create their own spells. Not only do they have to craft the incantation, but they also have to create the wand movements. While it is unknown just how exactly they go about doing that, it is known to be very dangerous, and sometimes even fatal to the one creating the spell. And because of all of that, it sounds like it could be a fantastic addition tothe nextHogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Take Spells to Whole New Heights
IfHogwarts Legacy 2tapped into thispart of theHarry Potterlore, then it could lead to something truly special. Players would be able to combine some of their favorite spells, create the wand movement, give it a creative name, and then unleash it onto their enemies. Through this, players could get all sorts of unique spells and effects, making no two playthroughs alike. Plus, if Avalanche wanted to take it even further, it could let them actually share said spells with each other.
If Avalanche wanted to include something like this, it could follow inthe footsteps ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. In that game, players who joined the Mages Guild could earn the ability to create their own spells using the Alter of Spellmaking. This allowed them to combine learned magical effects into something much more powerful. What ensued was a pretty fun system that sadly did not make its way toSkyrim, butHogwarts Legacy 2could fill that void.
Of course, Avalanche would need to come up with some story reason why the player character is powerful enough to do this. However, it has already made the protagonist a chosen one of sorts, so there is seemingly no reason it could not expand upon that idea further. Even if the spellmaking feature was fairly limited, its inclusion could be a fantastic treat for fans, and lead to some extremely memorable moments in the process.
