Hideo Kojima Will Attend The Game Awards 2024
Kojima’s appearance at The Game Awards 2024 won’t come as much of a surprise to those who know the relationship the game developer has with the show’s host, Geoff Keighley. In a new post on Twitter, Keighley confirmed Kojima’s attendance and noted that the illustrious director was present at the very first Game Awards back in 2014, so “he couldn’t miss [The Game Awards'] 10th anniversary.” Keighley also confirmed that Kojima would be attending the event as both a fan and a presenter, meaning he will be handing over an award for one ofThe Game Awards' many categories.
As for whether or not Kojima’s attendance at The Game Awards means fans will receiveanother sneak peek atDeath Stranding 2remains to be seen, but hopes are certainly high. The highly-anticipated sequel to 2019’sDeath Strandingwas all but confirmed by the game’s star, Norman Reedus, back in 2022. An official reveal then took place at The Game Awards 2022, with multiple trailers and deep dives being shown in the years since. Given that the title was revealed at The Game Awards, a new trailer appearing at the 2024 show seems likely.
One thing fans shouldn’t get their hopes up for is arelease date forDeath Stranding 2, as Kojima confirmed back in September during Tokyo Game Show 2024 that a reveal for the game’s release date won’t take place until 2025. The director revealed that while the release date had already been decided, it could not be announced during the event “due to some unforeseen circumstances.” Although Kojima didn’t reveal what these circumstances were, he did confirm that a date would be shared in 2025.
