Recently,HearthstonereleasedThe Great Dark Beyond, an interstellar card set themed around the spacefaring Draenei as they flee from the Burning Legion. The expansion introduced several interesting mechanics, including the new Draenei creature type and the Starship keyword, which allows players to build a vessel piece by piece before launching it directly on the board.
However, it seems like the Mini-Set for thisHearthstoneexpansion is going to be even more out of this world than fans might have expected. During the recentWarcraftDirect,Hearthstonerevealed that the Mini-Set forThe Great Dark Beyondis going to be a collaboration withStarCraft. Cards in this Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set are aligned with the Zerg, Protoss, or Terran factions, each of which can only be used in decks belonging tocertainHearthstoneclasses.
Zerg cards, available to Death Knights, Demon Hunters, Hunters, and Warlocks, will feature an aggro-heavy playstyle, and will get Sarah Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades, as a Legendary minion. The Protoss, led by the Legendary Artanis, will have high-cost minions and mana-cheating psionic spell cards playable by Druids, Mages, Priests, and Rogues. Lastly, Warriors, Paladins, and Shamans get access to thenew Starship mechanic inHearthstonevia Terran Battlecruisers and the Legendary Jim Raynor minion.
Heroes of StarCraft is going to be thelargest Mini-Set inHearthstonehistory, meaning players can expect more than 38 new cards in the micro-expansion. Assuming it works like other Mini-Sets, fans will be able to buy the full playset of Heroes of StarCraft for 2000 Gold or $15 once it releases in January 2025. The cards will then be legal in Standard untilThe Great Dark Beyondrotates out in 2026.
Speaking of which, Blizzard also gave players a sneak preview of the Year of the Raptor – the 2025 Standard year inHearthstone. According to the roadmap it shared, fans can look forward to an Emerald Dream expansion, a sequel toJourney to Un’goro, and a time-twisting adventure with Chromie featuringalternative universe versions of iconicWarcraftcharacters. Between these exciting expansion themes and theStarCraftMini-Set, 2025 is gearing up to be a great year forHearthstone.
