A Knight of the Seven Kingdomsis based on Martin’s novellaTales of Dunk and Egg. It’s both a prequel toGame of Thronesand a sequel toHouse of the Dragon, with the seriestaking place in between the two. Martin serves on the project as creator and executive producer along with Ira Parker and Ryan Condal. The story stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, who is a hedge knight (aka a knight with no master), and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, aka Prince Aegon Targaryen, who serves as Duncan’s squire.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Release Window Revealed
During a tech and media conference,attended by Variety, Warner Bros. Discovery global streaming chief JB Perrette provided an update on the release dates for many of its streaming series in 2025, including A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. According to Perrette, the nextGame of Thronesseries is aiming for a“late 2025 launch,”which Variety added is likely to be in the fourth quarter of the year (i.e. between October and December). The streamer recently provided some clarity on the release dates ofanticipated series likeThe Last of UsSeason 2andThe White Lotus. Filming onA Knight of the Seven Kingdomsbegan in June 2024 in Ireland and lasted four months until September. The series is expected to be smaller than the otherGame of Thronesproductions, with just six episodes in its season. Along with Prince Aegon,A Knight of the Seven Kingdomswill alsofeature other Targaryen family members, including Aegon’s brothers Prince Aerion and Prince Daeron, his father Maekar Targaryen, and Prince Baelor, the heir and Hand of the King.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdomsis just one of many plannedspin-offs in theGame of Thronesworldthat HBO has been developing. Some of these shows never made it to air, such as Naomi Watts’ prequelBloodmoon, which filmed its pilot before being shelved. Further investments into the Targaryen dynasty are currently underway with a series focusing on King Aegon’s conquest of Westeros.House of the Dragonwill also continue for another season with filming expected to begin in 2025. Martin seems to have no shortage ofGame of Thronesspin-off ideas with the author recently revealing anArya Stark-focused showwas once in early development before HBO ultimately canned the project.
