ManyHarry Potterfans can look atMiracle Workersas a more grown-up version of the popular film and book series, with many fantasy situations taking place, but with adult-friendly comedy mixed in. Fans of theHarry Potterseries have also been looking for their fantasy andsupernatural fix with Daniel Radcliffeat the helm, who starred as the main character in theHarry Potterseries and is a beloved actor. Not only do his acting chops in the fantasy world get to shine again inMiracle Workers, but viewers can experience his impressive comedic ability as well.
Outside of Daniel Radcliffe’s presence, the show boasts an impressive ensemble, including Steve Buscemi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Quinta Brunson, and Karan Soni, among others. The extensive cast makes for a great group of characters that work together as good friends, similar to the camaraderie between Harry, Hermione, and Ron in theHarry Potterseries. What is Each Season of Miracle Workers About?
Season 1 - Miracle Workers
In the first season ofMiracle Workers, the cast is tasked with saving Earth from destruction, as God,played by Steve Buscemi, has decided he is no longer interested in the project that is ‘Earth’ and wants to destroy it. The cast and characters are as follows:
Craig, played by Daniel Radcliffe, is used to answering only small prayers as an angel, like finding someone’s keys. Along with Craig, Eliza is a recently-transferred angel, but is much more straightforward than Craig and works to stop Heaven Inc.’s bureaucracy. Sanjay is God’s assistant who has been loyal for forever, but gets increasingly frustrated with God’s lack of care and impulsiveness.
The first season is based on the novel,What in God’s Name, written by Simon Rich. Heaven Inc. is run as a large corporation by God, who has decided to destroy Earth. To save humanity, Craig, Eliza, and Sanjay work together to achieve an “impossible prayer”, which requires them to make two humans fall in love, Laura and Sam, within two weeks, despite their awkward personalities. The first season pairs theseriousness of heaven and religionwith goofy premises, such as strange departments at Heaven, Inc., like the Department of Natural Disasters and the Department of Genitalia.
Season 2 - Dark Ages
In the second season, viewers will be taken to a more gritty setting, this time around, in a medieval village during the Middle Ages. The cast has their own worlds that they come from, withDaniel Radcliffe’s character serving as a son to a murderous king, while Steve Buscemi works as a peasant. The characters have their own separate stories to follow, with Edward working hard to provide for his family despite his low status. His daughter, Al, is doing everything she can to change their situation and to work up the ladder to live a better life. As for Prince Chauncley, he is the exact opposite of his bloodthirsty father, the king, who enjoys poetry and is overall a sweet person. He does everything he can to win over the villagers and attempts to separate himself from the king.Harry Potterfans will enjoythe more medieval settingthis season, and the comedic exploration of class inequality and societal norms.
Season 3 - Oregon Trail
The third season takes viewers to the 1840s during the westward expansion of America,and the Oregon Trail. The characters in this season are looking to survive the treacherous trail to have a better life on the other side. The cast and characters are as follows:
During the season, each character must face a multitude of challenges, such asanimal attacks, starvation, and much more. Reverend Ezekiel Brown, played by Daniel Radcliffe, is a preacher that decides to take his congregation across the Oregon Trail to find a new home to live. He brings along Benny the Teen to be their guide, who used to be an outlaw. Prudence Aberdeen and Todd, a married couple who are at increasing odds with each other, come along for the journey.
Throughout their time on the trail, they encounter many different types of wildlife, dangerous locations, and starvation, making it a tough trip to complete. However, many comedic moments come into play, such as Reverend Ezekiel’s unnecessarily long sermons, and his attempt to pray away some wolves. Todd Aberdeen, played by Jon Bass, lends his comedic chops as well, often wasting precious resources to get himself some hair gel, an item that is certainly not neededduring their time on the trail.
Season 4 - End Times
In the final season, viewers are taken into a post-apocalyptic setting known as the End Times. All civilization and society has collapsed, and those leftover have to survive the harsh world,similar to theFalloutseries. The cast and characters are as follows:
Road Warrior Sid and Warlord Freya Exaltada work together to make their way through the wasteland and find a better life in Boomtown as a married couple. They travel the ruined world with their sidekick, War Dog Scraps, and eventually work with Morris Rubinstein, the local junk dealer. While they build their lives in Boomtown, they get caught in many interesting situations, such as Freya attempting to take down the Home Owners Association, the married couple taking on a virtual world called the MatriXXX, and much more.
The final season has many hysterical moments for fans to enjoy, especially as the cast attempts to solve their problems while surviving in a crumbling society. Not only will viewers get to see these people struggling for resources in a harsh world, but they also take part in hilariously mundane situations, such as auditioning for a play and visiting a high school reunion. For anyHarry Potterfans looking for a new show to check out, Daniel Radcliffe’s performance is sure to entertain.
