Summary

Fantasy author George R.R. Martin seems to have given fans a small teaser in his blog regarding a new project that could very well seeGame of Thrones' Maisie Williams being involved. The highly popular HBO show,Game of Thrones, was adapted from Martin’s novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, which tells the tale of a long power struggle between noble families while a deeper and more dangerous threat looms over their kingdoms, as its aim is to destroy everything in its path and bring on an ever-lasting winter.

Honored with the esteemed title of “the American Tolkien” by Time magazine, George R.R. Martin’s success throughout the years has seen him receive many accolades, including the Hugo Award, the Bram Stoker Award, the Goodreads Choice Award, and, most recently in 2019, a Primetime Emmy Award forGames of Thronesseason eight. Releasing all the way back in 2011,Game of Thronestook the world by storm and ended its run as one of the most popular television shows of all time, with the show’s seventh season drawing in over 10 million viewers to HBO. However, season eight didn’t go nearly as well, with many fans feeling that the lack of source material and its rushed delivery was its biggest downfall.

Game of Thrones Creator Hints at New Project With Maisie Williams

In a post on his personalNot a Blogwebsite, George R. R. Martin has teased that he had a reunion with Maise Williams, who playedArya Stark for almost a decade inGame of Thrones. Martin said that while he was visiting London in the summer, he met up with Williams for dinner, but, preferring to remain as secretive as possible and only supplying a morsel for eager fans to chew on, Martin refused to go into details about what they both talked about. However, the author did say that the meeting could end up resulting in something “so much fun” and didn’t want to “jinx” anything just yet by revealing too much.

“We also got together with Maisie Williams for pizza and pasta, and talked about… well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it. But it could be so much fun.”

HBO’sHouse of the Dragonwas the first to get the spin-off treatment, and then there’s the 2025 release ofA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is based on Martin’s novella,The Tales of Dunk and Egg,whichaims to redeem theGame of Thronesfranchise’s tarnished reputation but just like the canceled John Snow spin-off, Martin’s meeting with Williams could actually end up going nowhere. It would make perfect sense though, as Arya has so much potential (dare I say even more so than Snow?) and has since become a highly popular figure, inside and outside ofGame of Thrones' world.

As for now, Martin is certainly a busy person, as not only does he continue to tease fans with his writing progress onThe Winds of Winter, but there’s also an apparentGame of Thronesmovie that is in early developmentat Warner Bros. Whether viewers will see a future Arya spin-off or not, remains to be decided, but it’s almost a guarantee thatGames of Thronesfans will gobble up the opportunity to see the young yet powerful Stark back on screens yet again.
